BOBBY SCHWARTZ DOMINATES INDUSTRY SPEEDWAY CYCLES JUNE 2011
By noderel:
Industry, CA., June 29 – Bobby “Boogaloo” Schwartz, 54 year old speedway motorcycle 1986 and 89 US National Champion, rode his 500cc lay-down GM cycle to a nearly perfect night Wednesday at Industry Speedway. The Costa Mesa resident won two of his three Division 1 heat races and was second in the other for 11 out of a possible 12 points. He also led all four laps of his semi-main. As high-point rider, he selected lane one for the five rider feature. Schwartz shot into the first turn ahead of lane four starter Jimmy Fishback, the current combined point leader at three tracks in Southern California. Schwartz beat Fishback by two lengths. He became the fourth winner in five D-1 features at Industry in the eighth season of Wednesday night motorcycle racing at Industry. Lane three starter Shawn McConnell passed lane two rider Charlie Venegas on the second lap and trailed last chance race winner Fishback at the finish by three-lengths. Venegas, a two-time Industry feature winner this season, placed fourth, a length back. Lane five starter Austin Novratil was fifth, two lengths in back of Venegas in front of 567 spectators at the Industry Hills Expo Center. It was the closest five rider finish this year.
Schwartz, whose long-time sponsor Warren Russell passed away last October, is now sponsored by Robert Cirac's MXRC Racing of Huntington Beach. His RC Industries is a manufacturer of motorcycle parts and accessories and varied products such as surfboards. New sponsorship enabled popular Schwartz to secure new motorcycle frames and engines and has him thinking about racing many more years. As Schwartz slowed for his main event victory lap with the checkered flag, many pit crewmen and fellow riders rushed out onto the fourth turn to congratulate him. McConnell also rode a post-race lap alongside Schwartz to congratulate his long-time friend and on-track rival.
The sidecar main event preceded the D-1 main and went to Joe Jones and “swinger” Jimmy Olsen. Brian Motis and his passenger Brandi McElroy were a close second in the event with four sidecars. Rocco Scopellite, 15, won the A Support main event. C. J. Sanborn won the B Support feature on his first visit to the track since leaving in an ambulance four weeks ago. He suffered bruised ribs and tendons in a fall during a heat race. Broc Nicol, 12, and Shea Bendykowski, 11, won 200cc Youth mains. Max Ruml, 14, dominated the Youth 250cc feature. Alyssa Smith, a 9-year old from Lakewood, continued her dominance in the 50cc pee-wee division by leading all four laps and winning her third consecutive main event in a six-rider field.
Fishback won the D-1 main event at Inland Motorcycle Speedway in San Bernardino last Friday night. Venegas, after winning the June 22 Industry feature over 2010 US National Champion Billy Janniro, rode to Northern California Wednesday night with Janniro. Venegas won the June 24 feature at Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway in Auburn. Racing at Industry started at 7:00 as usual and concluded at 9:39 pm. Promoter Jeff Immediato said the Bruvado Premium Mexican Beer sponsored speedway cycle races at Industry Speedway are being taped each week by a television crew for later airing. Telecasts on the Versus TV Network will begin this fall after the 14 week 2011 series concludes on August 31.
