Hello my name is Michael Payne from Elizabethton, TN. I have a 1981 Z28 Camaro T-Top that me and my father restored over the past 3 years. It is one of 500 built with the rare bright red interior with a black dash and console 1981 year option only. My father bought the car from a lady in Kingsport Tennessee in the 2004. We brought it home and it had a dent in the side door and a set of old outlaw wheels. We then took the car apart piece by piece till we got all the spoilers off it and interior removed. Then we bought a set of the factory wheels of a local radio swap and shop for 100 dollars and put new cooper cobra rubber on them. Next the car went to the paint shop where my neighbor Mike Malone of done all the body and paint work. One non original thing I had done to the front was I had the tag holes filled for a smooth bumper. Then my father ordered a Z28 Graphic kit from Phoenix Graphics and measured it all out and applied them to the car, as well as new grille and taillight Z28 emblems.
Next came the interior and we ordered original door panels and seat covers and put them on in our basement. Also we had a new Headliner installed. We also painted all the trim pieces with original bright red 81 interior paint. I installed a custom Sony explod sound system with two 6x9 speakers in the back and the stock one up front. Then finally we redone the engine It has a brand new GM 350, aluminum high rise intake, a 670 Holley double pumper carburetor, and its breathing out Hooker Headers and a 2.5 inch Flowmaster exhaust with super 40 mufflers. Behind that is a 350 turbo tranny and a original 10 bolt rear end with 410 gears. I have added many chrome parts under the hood like a chrome hood latch, custom chrome alternator, radiator cover, and fender braces. We got the car done for my high school graduation in May 2007 and that is what I got for my present was my Camaro.
