Raybestos Brake & Chassis 64 GTO-R Build

Chicago area based shop Hot Rod Chassis & Cycle (HRC&C) is causing a major stir in the traditional hot rodding community with their rods built to perform beyond their flawless show car good looks.  When a completed project rolls out of HRC&C it is guaranteed to have a gorgeous and timeless appearance that ranks with the best in the industry, along with ground pounding performance.  For these reasons when Raybestos Brake & Chassis decided to have a one-of-a-kind version of the iconic 64 GTO built as a give-away car, they turned to the talented crew at HRC&C.

 The give-away car now known as the Raybestos Brake & Chassis GTO-R goes well beyond your typical build in both looks and especially performance as the GTO-R is not a show car, but a fully functional SCCA Solo race car in a 60s show car skin.  The original chassis was cast aside as the GTO-R transformed into performance mode with a full unibody race chassis.  As you can see the 12 point roll cage is tied beautifully into the sleek chassis making for great looks and the ultimate in safety.  The quality of the welds and fabrication work on the GTO-R are nothing shy of flawless.  Heavy use of drilled panels, braces, and functional components give the 64 sinister race styling.  Front suspension duties are handled by double tubular A arms along with components of HRC&C design while a massive triangulated four link of the shops design handles the bumps out back.  Tire shredding power is delivered by a GM Performance 700 hp LS-X 454 race engine topped off with a Hilborn stack injection.  Backing up the big block and delivering neck cracking gear changes is a Tremec Magnum T-56 six speed manual transmission.  Spent fuel is exhausted thru HRC&C designed and built, equal length headers linked to a full on NASCAR exhaust system.  The crazy looking rear end is straight out of a race junkie’s wildest dream, and consists of a combination of Moser Engineering and HRC&C designed components.  Putting the power to the pavement is accomplished by the wide foot print of America Racing 17x9 & 17x11 inch rims wrapped in Nitto brand 275 & 305 performance tires.  Stopping duties are of course provided by the best in the business in the form of a Raybestos NASCAR short track and road course set-up. Gas doors were installed in each of the rear quarters and are reminiscent of the infamous Pontiac Grey Ghost race car.

 The 64 heads for paint and finishing in the next few weeks and will be debuted at the Power Tour.  One extremely lucky winner will be handed the keys to the Raybestos GTO-R this summer.  One thing is for certain, this GTO is built like no other, and when the new owner mashes the throttle, it will deliver the good…good luck everyone.
