Hi All Here’s a project that has taken on a life of its own. This 1948 Chevrolet COE Carrier Project was originally started at Boyd Coddington’s shop in Orange County, CA many years ago and I purchased it on the HotRod HotLine. By the time I drove it home from Palm Springs it had leaked more oil then the Exxon Valdez. Uncomfortable with the mechanical condition the truck was in, I opted to make some changes. The tired 396/turbo 400 package was to be replaced with a 502 RamJet backed up by a 4L80E transmission, a new Dana 80 rear end with 14 disc brakes will more than handle any load we put on the truck as well as the 510 hp this new motor will put out. The big issue was how to get the old engine out and make it easier to get the new engine in. Thus, the firewall had to go and this is where the project took on a life of its own. A custom radiator, air conditioning, steering column, and accessories are being added now. I’ll update you again in a few months. Victor Davis! |
