With the AutoCross series at the Goodguys events being so popular, Goodguys has added the Duel in Des Moines, presented by Optima Batteries, to the 25th anniversary Heartland Nationals, July 1-3 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. This mid-season competition will offer some fun twists and turns for the overall Duel in the Desert field in November.
All AutoCross competitors at the 25th Heartland Nationals will compete all day Friday and Saturday until noon to get their best time on the course. Starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, 24 cars from the event will run in the first round of qualifying. At the conclusion of this session, the field will be reduced to only 20 cars. Then, at 2 p.m., those 20 cars will run in the second round of qualifying nd the field will be reduced to 16.
At 3 p.m., the true excitement will begin as the field of 16 cars will run a PRO ladder run off from their best qualifying time during Saturday afternoon and the field will run through the ladder until there is a final Duel in Des Moines champion to be crowned. There will be double points for this event and the top eight will go directly into the field for the Duel in the Desert finals in November at the 19th Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale.
"With the popularity of the Duel in the Desert, we wanted to do something mid-season, and the natural place was the big track at the Des Moines, IA event," said Ed Capen, VP of Sales and Sponsorship for Goodguys. "The Duel in Des Moines is another way of racing into the Final Duel in the Desert in Scottsdale in November. With the Duel in Des Moines, the Sponsor Shootout and the season finale Duel in the Desert, Goodguys is moving to bring even more "cars in motion" to our events. The trend is all about driving and using your hot rod."
