Marshall is located in South Central Michigan and was once being groomed to be the state capital, however, it lost to Lansing. What it did achieve was to maintain its small town charm while continuing to grow. It is on the National Trust for Historic Preservation and one of their 12 Distinctive Destinations for 2004. It is also known for having the oldest Bed & Breakfast in the state of Michigan. Known for its historic Home Tours and Landmark Districts, it is also home of a growing annual Cruise to the Fountain. The event, now in its fourth year, has now grown to a car show, swap meet, car corral, vendors, camping and 4 days of car cruising in the well preserved downtown business district. The events are held in the Calhoun County Fairgrounds. Michigans oldest continuing operating fair grounds, which was first opened in 1848. The grounds are in a wooded setting with the cars set along the walkways, along with the trees, vendors, camp grounds, fair buildings, extensive restroom facilities (with showers) and of course people. There were car clubs and cars from Canada, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa. I knew this trip would be exciting, as I entered Marshall while driving my 1932 Ford, two fawn darted out in front of my car! Fortunately, they retreated. My heart resumed beating and aside from losing a roll of exposed film, a good time was had. Bob
