"Every town has it's favorite spot for the gear heads to hang out. One of Austin's focal points in the Hot Rod World is a place called South Austin Speed Shop, which is operated by Mercury Charlie doing the metal work and engines and Fat Lucky (Sean) doing the world class upholstery. This past weekend they celebrated their 1 Year Anniversary (or at least enough for hand grenades) by hosting a great Rod Run, complete with food, brewski's, and the live music of Texas legend Junior Brown. Seems like every time I sent in photo coverage of an event around here, the weather was threatening, and this was no exception. So how could it have been such a dry year if it's always threatening to rain?!?! Threatening is the key word here......sprinkles don't do much for the water table. The weekend started of on Friday night with a cruise-in, and later a trip next door to the Saxon Pub to see 50's musical icon, Jerry Cole. Then, on Sunday it was a full-fledged get-together!! The food (pepperoni rolls and mushroom rolls from "The Rockin' Tomato") was dynamite, the music from Junior Brown was Kick A**, and there were hot rods everywhere!! Did I mention all the fine ladies? It was definitely a good time. I can hardly wait until Charlie's 2 year anniversary!!!" Richard "Too Low" Haas, Street Rods Forever
