"We finally got some much needed rain here in Central Texas, but it didn't dampen the spirits of those who showed up in Boerne (pronounced Burney) Texas for the 20th Annual Key To The Hills car show. Limited to pre-'49 hot rods and customs, this show always draws the finest modified cars that Texas has to offer. It is the only time that any Texas hiway is ever blocked off, and downtown Boerne is lined down both sides and in the middle too with a dazzling array of colorful machines. Some of the trends I noticed this year were a predominance of Forty Fords (and '39's), lots of '35 Fords (usually considered the Ugly Duckling), and a whole slew of non-Ford hot rods. Nothing wrong with Deuce highboys, but it's nice to see something a little different now and then. There is no better way to get to know your fellow hot rodders than when you are taking shelter from the rain under someone's canopy and are shoulder to shoulder with others doing the same thing. I met a lot of great folks, and I'm hoping they'll heed my advice and take a look at HRHL and the great show coverage to be found here."Your Central Texas correspondent, Richard "Too Low" Haas, Street Rods Forever.com
