Lone Star Round Up

The annual Lone Star Round Up was better than ever this year! More cars from more places and more people checking it all out. Friday and Saturday night on Congress Ave, the cruisin' was fine. Spectators lined both sides of the streets and once they realized that "Burnouts" were NOT going to be part of the evenings entertainment, everyone just kicked back and enjoyed the scenery. Congress Avenue has turned into a very happening part of Austin and never more so than when The Lone Star Round Up comes to town. It's all there, from Radical Rat Rods to Very Fine Custom Cruisers and everything in between. There were folks there from as far away as Australia (an editor of an Aussie Hot Rod magazine) and Sweden, Denmark, Holland (the Scandinavians are major Hot Rod freaks), and also from just about every state in the Union. It would be pretty hard to guess just how many rods were in town. Although entry into the Car Show Saturday was limited to the first 500 entries, there were at least double that many fine Rods and Kustoms in town. Entering the car show is secondary to enjoying the fine cruising and tire kicking going on all weekend. There was live music outside on Congress Ave both Friday and Saturday nights as well as some good rockin' on the car show grounds. Mercury Charlie at South Austin Speed Shop also provided music all weekend long over on Lamar Ave. Also featured were Saturday morning's Breakfast Cruise and another Cruise on Sunday for burgers. A big thanks to Steve W. and the Kontinentals Kar Klub for a very fine weekend!! Can't wait for next year!!!!!  Richard "Too Low" Haas
