"The Annual Vintage Air Open House get-together was every bit as well attended as any previous ones in spite of the threatening weather. All the REAL hot rodders in the Central Texas area drove their rods to the new (2 years old) Vintage Air plant for some good tire kickin' and Bar-B-Q, plus a chance to tour the facilities. Vintage also put on a slide show with "The History Of Hot Rodding" as its theme. Guitarist Jimmy Vaughn was there with his very nice '35 Ford coupe and Bobby Jones, who was part of the team that won the '55 and '56 Indy 500, was there with a midget racer he started racing back in the late '30's! Mr. Jones is a "warehouse" of racing history and is more than willing to share his memories with anyone who shows an interest. There were members from several of the central Texas Hot Rot Clubs including the Gear Grinders of San Antonio, the Hill Country Street Rods, The Austin Chevy Club, and a dozen or more of the Donut Gang from Austin. As a post script, for all the guys that did drive their Rods, not a drop of rain fell!!" Richard "Too Low" Haas
