Whangamata is a small coastal village of around 4,000 people and has become well known as the home of the "Beach Hop" - New Zealand's biggest nostalgia festival with over 70,000 people and 1200 cars attending each year. Check out www.beachhop.co.nz to look at over 5,000 photos. We've noticed more classic cars residing in our town recently, so decided it was "Time for a Cruise" to get the locals together.
Whitianga is a town 60 miles away from Whangamata and about the same size. We put the word around each town that it was "Time for a Cruise", so the cars met at a Cafe 1/2 way between the 2 towns. The cars then headed to Whitianga for a BBQ lunch on the beach before retiring to a country pub for a few beers. Surprisingly 49 cars attended - and we know that at least another 20 didn't make it on the day. So that is about 70 cars from 2 small towns. Can this area now be called Hot Rod heaven??? Enjoy a sample of the cars that enjoyed the day.....Noddy Watts
