The 11th Annual Circle of Champion Brunch is a nice event that brings many of the competitors together for an opportunity to socialize, meet each other, recognize last years Ridler winner, and hear a short program by a special guest. This year emceed again by Dave McClelland, had the invocation by Barry McGuiar, and a nice tribute to SoCal, as Builder of the Year. Unfortunately, Alex Xydias’s wife took seriously ill at the last moment, so Pete Chaporis gave a nice slide history of SoCal. Gene Winfield was announced as the 2008 Builder of the Year, and Steven Timoszyk was given the Preservation Award for the Prock & Howell 33 Willys Gasser.
There was a brief history of the Ridler Award, the 1st winner, Al Bergler, had his More Aggravation Fueler there in the banquet room, and the 2007 Great 8 Finalists were introduced and given Great 8 jackets.The 2006 Ridler award winner, Kevin & Karen Alstott were inducted into the hall of fame, as was 2006 Ridler builder Roger Burnham, and also Eric Geisert from Street Roddder magazine. As part of the brunch, there is a non-woven cloth pelon of the Autorama poster signed by Pete Chaporis and Jimmy Shine given to each attendee. This is a fun event and good time to see and talk to many of notables in the sport.
