Rudy Necoecher’s, 32 Ford Roadster, champaign gold car had some bad luck at the last minute on the plane ride where the underside was damaged and needed some emergency paint work on the Thursday night before the show. Fortunately, it was repaired overnight, and was on the stand at the show opening.

Jim Bedard’s ‘33 roadster was the culmination of a 20-year dream to build the car he always wanted, in which the timing just happened to coincide with the run for the Ridler. The plan was always to drive the daylights out of it, and following the show, he could do just that, as the car was so ready to go.

Sam Magarino’s really tasty ’40 Ford roadster was a design achievement with one of the finest designed interiors I’ve seen in an Autorama or concept car, in the last several years. The combination of a candy gold exterior, and matching matte finish interior parts, really was a nice change from the reds and silvers so typical the last few years. Pinstriping Showcase head Yosemite Sam, presented Sam with his Sculptural Excellence Award.

The Carroll Smith candy gold ’46 Chevy pickup displayed an incredible amount of work, that proved how successful and beautiful, the most unlikely of vehicles, can be.
