The Hot Rod MD at LA Roadster Show
At this years’ LA Roadster Show the Hot Rod MD was at the Hot Rod Library booth with his deuce highboy roadster to meet with fellow rod builders and offer assistance with tech problems. Many fellow rod builders stopped by to discuss their projects; especially those also building cars with nailhead Buicks for power like Jim’s roadster. Hundreds of pages of tech info are available to read and download on www.hotrodhotline.com by clicking on Hot Rod MD.

Illusion Guitars ’59 Cadillac styled guitar
Illusion Guitars ’59 Cadillac rear fin styled guitar is no novelty item. It features a 25.5" scale - 22 frets - Floyd Rose Speed Loader Trem - Lipstick Tube Pickups - Functional Tail Light - Chromagen Paint on Fin - Bolt On Neck. It is a serious musical instrument costing thousands of dollars and I’m told by famous editor, author, rod builder, rodding hall-of-famer and serious guitar aficionado Pat Ganahl that the components are of professional grade. Pat is holding the guitar as if playing it but had no way to try it there. The hot young lady is holding it so that the unique taillight design can be seen. Further information about their guitars is available at www.illusionguitars.com.

When the weather breaks in spring we have more car shows and events available to us than we could possibly attend. Large national events like the L.A. Roadster Show, Syracuse Nationals or NSRA Nationals in Louisville, KY are events most of us wish we could attend or schedule our vacation time so that we can, but we build our cars for attending more than a few big events each year. To fill that gap between those big events there are hundreds of local one-day and weekend activities.

A new one-day show was introduced this year in St. George, UT at the ultra modern Dixie Center. The Boulevard Dreams Classic Auto Meet featured every type of car and truck from restoration to racecar. As an upscale retirement community St. George, the fastest growing community in America over the last 5-years, has attracted its share of car enthusiasts moving in from the big metro areas. An additional source for high-end cars to enter the show come from Las Vegas, NV 110-miles down the interstate.

Opening the show to the public at noon allowed participants to come in and setup that morning. Ample floor space inside the Dixie Center provided generous display area and air-conditioned comfort for the participants and spectators. Vendors and swap meet sellers setup in the fenced parking area and spectators took advantage of the close-in free parking out front.

Jerry Bowles L.V. Roadsters, Red Hills Rods and Choppers and Everything Skulls were among the vendors supporting this first year show. Entertainment was provided by local musicians including Durty Burt a country group featuring Brian Boatright-drums, Rustin Reber-guitar and Brian Huntsman-bass. Info about the group and their playlist is available at www.myspace.com/durtyburt.

Hourly raffles were held for some fine prizes with the grand prize, a newly built high-performance smallblock Chevy, awarded at 8:30 that evening. Trophies were awarded based on the votes cast by the spectators as they viewed the cars during the show. This first annual show was deemed a success and further info about next years show can be obtained at www.mobilecultureevents.com
