The 4th Annual Wheels Extravaganza was hosted by the Amarillo Area Corvette Club at the Tradewinds Airport on Saturday, May 26, 2007.
This year they hosted 4 events at the same time. There was of course the Annual Corvette show along with an open show for classics, hot rods and everything else. Motorcycles are very popular in this part of the country so they included a motorcycle show this year along with a live classic auto auction. There was a live band that played during the day along with trade and food vendors.
And Wheels Extravaganza is exactly what was there for public viewing. There were big cars, fancy cars and not so fancy cars. There were little cars and littler cars and even little little cars! There were fancy motorcycles, not so fancy cycles, new ones and old ones on a trailer. They even smelled old when you past by them.
The weather was fantastic and everyone had a fun filled day. Becky Houghton and her crew have done an awesome job every year with this show and the general public can hardly wait for next year’s event.
Congratulations to the Amarillo Area Corvette Club for another great show and the cruises to the Veterans Hospital, retirement homes, and especially for revitalizing the Polk Street cruise like it was back in the 50’s with it’s burnout contest and 10,000 people showing up downtown Amarillo, to share the excitement. Who knows what the Corvette Club has in store for the rest of the year. Stu and Pat Thorpe
