This was a great Sunday show of hot rods, customs, airplanes, experimental craft and other mechanical wonders. It was also the unveiling of the “Johnny Franklin” No. 2 Tribute BCRA (Bay City Racing Association) Tribute Hard Top (Jalopy to some) race car. The car was built by Conrad Cavallero in his Santa Rosa, CA. Red Barn Classics Shop. 84 year old “Johnny Franklin”, known in the real world as Frank Johnson, was delighted with the car and the more he looked it over, the more stories he told of the good ‘ol days of circle track racing in Northern California in the 50’s and 60’s. Frank is scheduled to drive the “Deuce” car in its first exhibition competition at the All American Vintage Classic II race at the West Capitol Raceway in Roseville (CA) on September 14th and 15th. This was a real thrill for me as these cars were the first race cars I ever saw race in competition on a dirt oval track when I was 14 years old...now that tells you something too!
