call it a weekend. I think I lost all sense of direction when we pushed Dick’s car into place next to the Sam Barris Merc, Blackies roadster and the Ala Kart. How could one focus on the job at hand? I didn't. I began roving back and forth around all those iconic creations and listened to the stories being told by the old guys who had done all this before. The history lessons I learned were priceless. How had I missed so much?
The building was decorated to match the feel of the old armory in Oakland and had banners hanging from the ceiling and barrels separating the crowd from the cars as it was in the day.
The crowd was tremendous. There was difficulty getting good pictures on the days the public were there. They packed in and stood in awe, as I did. We were not disappointed.
I met and chatted with Jim Clark, Hotrodhotline MD for a spell. He has many a story to tell. While at the Hotrodhotline booth, I met the Lawford's, Richard Parks and Roger Rohrdanz, who's who of the Southern Cal. car scene. I photographed Bruce Geisler at the NHRA Museum, a Studebaker Bonneville hero of mine. I happened by Art Chrisman's racer as he was holding court, and got a quick picture. So, you see it was a great time for the old rodder from the north country. Had a blast! Will go again! Brian Curtis
