Finally, the 2010 outdoor car show season is off and running down here in the Texas Gulf Coast. Although still a little cold (low ‘50s), the Houston based Hellions Car Club held their Texas HotRod HoeDown just north of Houston at Albert Sallas Park in New Caney under beautiful, blue skies. The event is open to pre-’72 customs, rods, classics and muscle cars with the emphasis being traditional, old school and/or rat rods. Besides the car show, the event featured a swap meet, a pin-up girl contest, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighting exhibitions, tattoo artists, live music and exhibition roller derby competitions by the female Houston Roller Derby. Believe me, there was plenty to see and do. Although I was elated with the “beginning” of the car show season and really enjoyed the show (my first visit!), my jubilance was bittersweet.
