Collectors, enthusiasts, and gearheads of all kind came out for the second annual SEMA Show 'N Shine car show and third annual SEMA Cares Pinewood Drag Races on July 24 at the Pasadena Convention Center.

Sponsored by UPS, the car show portion of the event drew nearly 120 vehicles, ranging from prewar Fords, Chevies, and Buicks, to lowriders, late-model muscle cars, lavish customs, and vintage Mercedes-Benz.

Show 'N Shine organizer Mike Spagnola of Street Scene Equipment said he was impressed by the growth and interest in the car show. “It was completely sold out,” he said. "Car show spaces, vendor slots, totally full.”

Plaques and trophies were awarded in several classes. In addition, People’s Choice and Participant’s Choice winners also received four days hotel accommodations and a spot for their cars in the 2010 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

Chip Foose, award-winning automotive designer best known for his work on TLC’s “Overhaulin’,” was the event’s grand marshal and signed autographs. Dennis Gage, host of the television program “My Classic Car,” was also on hand to sign autographs.

The Pinewood Drag Races featured more than 100 cars built by the children at Childhelp and Victory Junction Gang Camp.

“Seeing the excitement and smiles from the Childhelp Village kids as their cars raced and won made all the effort and work that the committee put in worth it,” said Joel Ayres, SEMA Cares committee chairman.

All proceeds from the entry fees of both events went to benefit ChildHelp and Victory Junction Gang Camp charities.
