Walt Smolenski Shaking hands with Gene Winfield

On Saturday morning, (4:00 A.M.) my buddy Charlie picked me and our buddy Carl up to go to the Syracuse Nationals; After a 4 hour drive we were at the gate to get in when it opened. The New York State Fairgrounds were packed with cars and an hour plus line of cars still waiting to get in.; We knew it was going to be a good and long day. Syracuse is a hot spot for a car show and "HOT" in general - Possibly the "Death Valley of the East". As usual there were more cars than one could see in the one day we were there, but we made an effort to see as much as we possibly could. Our old, tired and sore bodies let us know that by the end of the day and especially the following day that we were in for some pain - We definitely aren't getting any younger. Our thoughts turned to "We must be NUTZ", but if given the opportunity to do the same thing next weekend we'd do it all over again!

I Talked with the forever young Gene Winfield, and yes, the Polack in the picture shaking hands with him is me... Paul Le Mat and Candy Clark from American Grafitti were there signing memorabilia. Also on hand were John D'Agostino and Art Alvarez.

There were a couple of 10 minute showers during the day, but they offered no relief from the 90 degree temperatures. We're guessing that records for entrants and spectators were broken again this year. We encountered severe storms on our trek back home and finally hit the sack around 11:00 P.M. It was quite the day!!!  Hope you enjoy looking thru my pictures!
