From over thirty entries, eight are selected as finalists for the prestigious Ridler Award, named in memory of a Michigan Sports Hall of Fame member Don Ridler. In the 1940’s and 50’s Don was a local athletic coach, producer of the Michigan State Fair Grandstand shows and handled public relations for Detroit area horse racing. His interests turned to promoting car shows and he was instrumental in the early Autorama shows held at the Coliseum at the Michigan State Fair Grounds. Regretfully, Don passed away in 1963 at the young age of 54 but his enthusiasm and promotional skills were forever immortalized in the creation of this award.
It is an honor in itself to be selected into the field of the eight finalists who had gathered from across the United States and Canada. All are outstanding in their style and craftsmanship, and many are rumored to cost upwards of a million dollars to create!
