Greg Cape

Pro Street 55 Chevy

My name is Greg Cape from Athens, Georgia. I started the pro street 55 Chevy a few years ago and worked on it as I could. If you put all my time together I probably have 2 to 3 years in it. I started off with plans to put a small block in the car and ended up with a 540 ci big block blown and injected monster engine. I used a TCI 400 trans and converter feeding through a 4" drive shaft into a 9" Ford rear end with Greg Moser axles. The rear end is held in place by a 4-link and coil over shocks. The front end has Air Ride technologies suspension keeping things the right height while using 3" drop spindles to help lower the car. I decided to chop the top 3". I'm a do-it-yourselfer and this was my first chop, so I studied and thought out what I needed to do and how to do it. The top ended up growing 3" in length and 1" in width. I had another donor car that I used to accomplish this task. Before I put paint on the car I took it for the glass fitting, I found a guy in Morristown Tenn. by the name of David King of King auto glass that really knows his glass. I ask David how many windshields and rear glasses I needed to bring with me for him to cut. To my surprise he said 1 each and that was all it took!!
I painted the body pearl white and black with PPG paint. The modified 55 frame was painted silver to create a little contrast underneath the car. Assembly of all the pieces went well and as soon as the car was rolling again I took the car back to Mr. King for glass installation. I was all smiles when I picked it up. Finally it was time to set the monster motor in the frame and complete all other assembly tasks. The car was now ready to go to Lamar Stephens Custom Interiors shop in Buford Ga. near Atlanta. Lamar made me smile again with the silver leather he put in my car. Unfortunately Lamar (a long time friend) passed away with cancer a few months after he finished my car. He will be missed a lot!! Lamar's son Kenny took over the Interior shop and he knows his stuff when it comes to auto and truck interiors, just like his Dad!!
