This authentic L78 was certified by expert Jerry MacNeish in June of 2015. Only 9,486 L78 Chevelles were produced in 1969. The L78 option was the 396-375HP V8 engine. The 1969 L78 was advertised as “The Factory’s Fastest”. Unless you lived near a Chevrolet performance dealer like Yenko, Gibb, Rosenthal, Indianatlantic or Rathmann, the chance of finding an L78 on the showroom floor was somewhere between slim and none. You had to get a Special Product Order form and get the dealer to order one for you. As stated on Jerry MacNeish’s report “Original engine L78 Chevelles are rare in today’s collector car market because most were blown up from abuse on the street or drag strip”. This car retains the original VIN plate tag and trim tag. This car has a partial original build sheet which is included. As the NCRS Shipping Data Report for this car indicates the GM official production date was April 3, 1969. The original delivery dealer was Roller Chevrolet Company located in Monterey, CA. The car was ordered with the following options: F40- Special front and rear suspension, G80- Positraction rear axle, J50- power brakes, J52- Power disc brakes, L78- 396-357HP V8 engine, M21- close ratio 4-speed transmission, PL5- F70x14 RWL tires, T60- HD battery, U14- special instrument, U57- tape player, U63- AM radio and Z25- Super Sport, 72- Monaco Orange and TRM- black trim. This car was the product of a rotisserie restoration and was restored to show quality standards throughout. The exterior body is very straight with great gaps. The car was finished with a high quality paint job in its original Monaco Orange with a black side stripe. This is a gorgeous color and looks great on this car. All of the glass was replaced new. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced including the window trim, wipers, mirrors, door handles, fender trim, grille, bumpers, lights and emblems. The car sits on correct Firestone Wide Oval F70-14 tires. The interior was finished in its original color of black which looks amazing. Everything in the interior has been restored or replaced including the headliner, sun visors, dash, dash hardware, gauges, steering wheel, door panels, seats, seat belts and carpeting. The trunk compartment was restored with the factory style trunk mat and spare tire. The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout. The car is powered by the original matching numbers 396-375HP V8 engine with T0313JD assembly date, “272” block with casting date C119 and VIN stamp on block. This engine was completely rebuilt and runs great. The engine breathes through the correct style exhaust system. The engine is coupled to a replacement Muncie 4-speed transmission with a #325 case and is stamped P0812 assembly date. The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout. Everything underneath was restored or replaced including the steering, suspension and braking components. This car not only looks the part but runs and drives very nicely. The NCRS Shipping Data Report, partial original build sheet, original title from 1975, reproduction owner’s manual, reproduction tags and Jerry MacNeishs certification report is included. This car has recently been serviced which is documented with an invoice that is included.
