This 1970 Chevelle SS396 is an ORIGINAL SS396 4 speed car built at the Oshawa factory with Z25, C08, M20 options. It does NOT have Cowl Induction. This is a DRIVER, NOT a Show car. You will NOT have to re-mortgage your house to buy this Muscle Car!
I bought it in 1991 w 64,084 miles on odometer. Prior to that the engine was replaced with a 1972 396/402. (Engine stamp code CTB) All manufacturing numbers on Muncie M20 4 speed trans and rear end match 1970 car manufacturing date.
Bucket seats, no console.
Original SS mag style wheels. Includes set of original trim rings.
The original color was Fathom Blue w/ black vinyl top and interior. The previous owner painted it a mid-80’s Corvette blue w/ black stripes.
I do not use this car as I own other cars and have consuming work obligations. It has been driven 500 miles in the last 29 years. Driven locally once or twice yearly. Under 64,600 miles on the odometer now.
Around 200 miles ago the engine didn’t sound right, so a complete teardown was done to find a slipped crank bearing.
Then a complete professional rebuild was done-
Bake and blast block,
Bored out .030 over,
Federal Mogul pistons,
Crankshaft ground .010 for main and rod bearings,
Re-condition connecting rods,
Comp Cam hydraulic cam/lifter kit,
Performance Plus double roller timing set,
Brass freeze out plugs,
Rebuild heads/three angle valve job w/ hardened seats for unleaded gas, with upgraded Comp Cam valve springs to match cam specs,
Rocker studs and nuts,
Standard volume oil pump, etc, the professional works went into rebuild.
NEW additional other parts with less than 500 miles on them-
Black vinyl top, carpet, and bucket covers,
Complete brake job, drums/rotors cut, new master cyl and hoses
4 KYB shocks,
2 BFG tires,
High volume water pump,
4 row original look radiator to keep running engine cool, (kept/have orig radiator)
Zoom clutch p-plate etc,
Stock flywheel resurfaced,
Trans, rear, p/s fluids replaced,
Plugs, wires, rebuilt distributor,
Petronix electronic ignition (no points) upgrade, w/ coil upgrade,
Orig carb rebuilt,
Orig SS mag style wheels sandblasted and re-painted, (have original trim rings)
Upper A-frame bushings, upper & lower ball joints, sway bar bushings, end link bushing kit,
The car had manual steering, what a bear to turn around!! So did an all original style power steering installation,
Plus there are probably other items I can’t think at the moment…?? thousands of dollars and ??? hours later, this car can be yours.
The overall condition is good, a decent driver. Take notice in one of the pics which shows the hood has a number of Bondo cracks from previous owner. The hood, bumpers and interior door panels were going to be the next items I was going to replace.
Looking for the right person with CASH to give it a good home. Car should be driven and enjoyed instead of parked in my climate controlled/heated garage.
I do NOT have to sell it…I am NOT out of work…nor need the $ to put food on the table.
I do NOT have the time, nor patience to deal with low ballers, flippers, bottom feeders, tire kickers. Do NOT respond!
Asking $29,000. Car is in north Jersey.
