Description:
INTRODUCTION: One of the most desirable muscle cars of the era is the Chevrolet Chevelle LS6, and having one in a convertible takes it to another level. This certified triple black Chevelle has undergone a body off frame restoration to factory specifications, right down to the correct LS6 engine and Muncie M22 Rock Crusher trans, both stamped to match the car. It has been certified by Jerry MacNeish as a genuine factory triple black example. Adding to its appeal, this Chevelle is highly optioned and authenticity goes as far as having the smog equipment and reproduction tires.
EXTERIOR: For a 15 year old restoration, especially finished in black this Chevelle has held up remarkably well. The body is absolutely straight, and the panels fit beautifully throughout. It has been refinished in its factory born Tuxedo Black color, giving it a timeless and aggressive presence. Born without stripes, the stripes currently on the car are authentic style decals that can be removed if desired. It also features a functional cowl induction hood with the working flapper door and racing hood pins. At the time of restoration, all of the chrome and trim were replaced, along with the windshield and weatherstrips. The black convertible top with a glass rear window was replaced as well. Completing the authentic appearance is a correctly restored set of SS wheels wrapped in Firestone Wide Oval tires, giving this Chevelle the perfect period correct stance.
INTERIOR: The interior has been completely restored to stock condition, looking every bit like it did in 1970. The entire dash pad, instrument panel, and factory gauge cluster have all been replaced, including a working clock. It also features the optional AM/FM radio, positioned next to the power convertible top switch.
Down on the floor, nice carpet is complemented by Chevelle floor mats, a full set of seat belts, and a center console topped with a rechromed Muncie shifter. The seats have been recushioned and reupholstered, complete with all new trim for a fresh factory appearance. The door panels, armrests, window cranks, and visors have all been replaced as well. In front of the driver sits the deluxe steering wheel mounted on a tilt column, completing an interior that truly feels like stepping back into 1970.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Under the hood sits the legendary LS6, a 454 rated at 450 horsepower- the highest advertised horsepower of any production car from the muscle car era! This example carries the correct casting codes and dates, along with the proper stampings that include the matching VIN number. The big port cylinder heads are properly paired with the factory aluminum intake manifold, topped by the correct carburetor and complete cowl induction system. Additional factory correct details include the complete smog system, deep groove pulleys designed to keep the belts in place at high RPM, proper fuel lines, correct exhaust manifolds, and more. It is also equipped with power steering and power brakes for a more enjoyable driving experience. The engine bay presents beautifully, with proper components throughout, including the horns, complete washer squirters, and hood insulation. Yes, it's detailed and yes it runs strong!
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid and the jambs are finished in gloss black for a clean appearance. The latch, decals, and weatherstripping have all been replaced, along with the trunk well liner and wiring. Inside, the trunk features solid metal coated in the proper spatter finish paint. Going the extra mile, they even sourced a fifth matching SS wheel wrapped in a reproduction tire, along with a complete and correct jack assembly.
UNDERSIDE: The body was lifted from the frame and every component was removed as part of the restoration. It is equipped with the desirable F41 suspension package, which includes front and rear sway bars along with boxed rear control arms. The suspension has been fully rebuilt, as has the steering system, ensuring it drives as well as it looks. The brake system has been completely rebuilt or replaced, featuring front disc brakes and rear drums. Even the emergency brake assembly is fully hooked up and functional. A healthy sounding exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers, factory-style resonators in the tailpipes, and signature cowbell tips delivers the perfect muscle car tone. The fuel system was completely replaced, and looking up at the engine, it presents factory clean with the correct original style starter in place. The proper orange overspray was applied to the bellhousing, which is bolted to the legendary Muncie M22 Rock Crusher transmission, VIN-matched to this car. A rebuilt driveshaft sends power to the 12-bolt rear end fitted with street friendly 3.36 Posi gears. The floors and frame are clean, solid metal, and chassis components have been detailed with authentic assembly line markings keeping it accurate.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and reputation. Therefore, we built a 2 million dollar, 10,000 square ft service center, and hired a team of technicians to service the essentials on every car we sell.
CONCLUSION: A documented LS-6 convertible recently sold for $770,000 at auction! This one will deliver the same enjoyment at a fraction of the cost.
