Loud, fast and intimidating, remember when lots of guys and girls would drive their cars and race them at the track on the weekends? These were hot street cars, the Street-Strip type of car. Cars with big rear tires, fire breathing engines and maybe even racing stripes. They were driven to work all week and driven and raced at the drag strips on the weekends. We don't see many of them any more. They would be hard to miss in today's sea of ubiquitous silver cars shaped like a bar of soap. Good news! We are so happy to bring you one of those muscle cars! A blue, brawny badass of a car. A street-strip car designed and built to get attention and get trophies. A 1969 El Camino that is so full of surprises, you must look closely.
This '69 El Camino was conceived and built to be a high performance car. It is the product of an expert frame-off rebuild with lots of modifications and new parts. Our owner started with a car without an engine twelve years ago. That same '69 Camino is now explosively powerful, sleek, smooth and gorgeous. This is an opportunity for someone to get the car of their dreams. Only 1,000 miles driven after the rebuild. The work is done. Drive it, enjoy it, admire it. Let's take a look.
The all-steel, original body was extensively prepped before the expert application of the Chevrolet Le Mans Blue paint. New body mounts were installed before it went back on the frame. The big Camino has smooth body panels and fenders. The paint flows and shows the graceful curves and laser straight sides. The SS hood with the twin intakes look perfect on this intimidating blue El Camino. A gorgeous paint job, the car is unadorned with any emblems save for the Chevy "SS 396" badges on the very front and back, accenting the smooth look. All of the chrome on the car is new. There are no old pieces. The chrome bumpers, grill, headlights, window trim all gleam against the gorgeous blue paint. Taillights and chrome bedrails are all replaced with new. Many of the chrome pieces came from Original Parts Group ( OPG ) in California. The wheels are new and from Weld Wheels, they are surrounded by high performance Mickey Thompson radials. They look great and perform even better.
The interior is all new & spotless. Seats, console, dash, gauges, headliner and door panels have all been replaced. A new aftermarket radio has been installed and just above that, a Vintage Air A/C system has also been installed, and it blows cold. A wonderful interior with new carpets. Plush, new, sturdy, lots of room, and climate control. There are less than one thousand miles on the car's rebuild.
Take a look under the hood of this fantastic El Camino. Every part, hard lines, bolts are all squeaky clean. And that engine... It is not a 396, it is a 454 bored .060 over to make it a 468 cubic inch big block. Completely rebuilt, it features high compression pistons, ported heads, a roller cam, headers, and a Holley 830 Carb. The exhaust is handled by three in pipes on this Street -Strip El Camino. Yes, it runs very strong. The transmission is a modified GM Turbo Hydramatic 400 built to take the power from the big Chevy motor. The rear end is built to take it, too. It is a Nine inch Ford rear end with a Detroit Locker. This car is serious business. The suspension is also new. A Hotchkiss suspension kit with all new springs, control arms, and shocks with adjustable rears has been installed underneath. All new Wilwood disc brakes can be found on all four wheels. A powerful, agile responsive beast of a Street-Strip car is what the winning bidder will get with this fantastic El Camino. It is about as close to a perfect Chevy Big Block muscle car as one can get.
Our owner mentioned that the turn signals are not working. The tachometer partially obscures the speedometer and the owner is not sure if it works. The test drive showed plenty of power and the transmission shifted as it should. Steering was responsive and the brakes were firm and worked well.
This blue El Camino represents such a perfect, desirable street-strip car. We can only urge you to watch this auction closely. Good luck with your bids.
