Style, rarity, and affordability all combine on this 1978 Dodge Magnum GT. So as you look over everything from the big block V8 power, to the T-tops, to the A/C interior, you'll discover a cool coupe that knows how to stand out.
This was the first series that ever used Magnum model name, and this does a great job of conveying the premium and forceful image the title carries. After all, it has the long hood and crisp design that instantly announced this was a personal coupe made to own the road. This is the special GT package car, and that meant plenty of great additional features, like color-matched fender flares and deep dish Rallye wheels. And because they have a special paint theme with an aggressive black with red accent stipes, it's terrific to see that they invested in giving the full package a quality respray later in life to remain looking bold. Plus, those retractable translucent headlight covers were a finishing touch that looked like they were pure style. And while these were a signature piece, they're true purpose was to help cheat the wind for NASCAR races - just like the Dodge Charger Daytona a decade prior. And just like those special Chargers, these first-gen Magnums have rarity on their side, too, with production lasting only two model years.
A red interior always looks great on a classic American, and so you'll love taking the T-tops out to show off this well-preserved package. These have the comfort and size to leave plenty of room for family and friends. Plus, it's loaded with a ton of features to keep everyone happy, including cold-blowing factory air conditioning, power windows, power locks, and an AM/FM/CD stereo with AUX/USB input for the best in modern driving music. But even when you're just going solo, this Magnum is terrific. You have the individual comfort of a power-adjusting bucket seat. The GT's special machine-turned dash and center console panels are absolutely sporty. The tilt steering column gives you an excellent view of the large speedo and tach, and the upgraded auxiliary gauge trio keeps you fully informed on what's going on under the hood.
While the Magnum was only available for two short years, the 400 cubic-inch big block was only around for one of them. So to have an era-correct block that's believed to be original that under the hood makes this coupe extra special. While it looks highly stock, closer inspection will see some nice upgrades. There are great vintage pieces like Mopar's Direct Connection valve covers. Plus, there's also an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock intake. These V8s are great for torque, which gets you off the line with confidence. This one also has nice GT features, like the upgraded suspension with rear sway bar. And the shortened dual exhaust has a nice tune (the sale also comes with the pipes to extend it all the way to the back if you so desire.) A true GT also makes for a fine cruiser, and that's why you have the Torqueflite A727 three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, cruise control, and power brakes w/discs up front.
It's hard not to get excited when a rare big block machine like this is up for grabs at such an affordable price. But you're not the only one who sees this deal, so hurry up and call today!
