You already know us for vintage cars, but we love the modern classics, too. Especially when they are fast, rare, and have been given plenty of the right investments. That's why this one-owner 2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4 ACR is a speedy favorite in our building.
The appeal of this car is as clear as black and white...literally. That's thanks to a factory Stone White car upgraded with a lightweight carbon fiber hood and trunk. And you're going to see care and investments all around this car that maximize its performance nature. After all, the ACR (American Club Racing) was built to be a better autocross version of the already ultra-hot SRT-4. In fact, as a "stripper" version, there were only 88 cars done in this color...that's it! This likes to announce this level of speedy intentions with the special BBS wheel, a hood scoop, and upgraded large dual exhaust tips. Additionally, this version has been stripped, hence "stripper", of some creature comforts other models would have, but not necessary in a street beast such as this. And beyond just the swiftness, there's an attractiveness in in the overall quality. The fit of the factory panels and the clean look of the car signal that this has been well-respected over it young life.
The first thing you notice when you open the door are the front seats. These are nicely bolstered racing buckets borrowed from the Viper, and they are special to the ACR with the stitching in the seatback. Also, there are special white-faced readouts just like the Viper. This is joined by well-integrated upgrades, like the AutoMeter boost gauge and a Hurst short throw shifter. This is the lightweight version, so it skips out on some weighty features like the upgraded subwoofer sound system and sunroof. But it is by no means a penalty box. You have air conditioning, power windows, power locks, a tilt steering column, electric rear defogger, dual front airbags, cup holders, an AM/FM/CD stereo, and cruise control.
What makes the SRT-4 so special is the motor. It's a Mitsubishi-designed 2.4-liter, and the ultra-hot Stage 3 car like this means a larger turbocharger accompanied by other upgrades. It includes a titanium aluminized turbine wheel, 682 cc/min fuel injectors, high flow fuel pump, and more. This also adds a full controller module on the dash for the turbo, intercooler, and a special red 100 octane button on the dash for running on race gas. The engine bay has the fresh look of a well-respected car. That's because most of its mileage was part of a 110-mile daily commute, and so the odometer majority reflects interstate mileage. In 2008 it was taken out of commuter duty and given a serious power upgrade. It started with a Mopar professional shop rebuild that blueprinted the motor. They enhanced and fortified it with JE pistons (.20 over), Eagle H-beam rods, a new crank, a Super Damper over heavy factory balancing shaft, and a rebuilt head with Crower Stage 2 cams. Forced Performance reworked the turbo for a 30% flow upgrade over the Stage 3, and now has a GReedy blow-off valve. It all exhales through a Mopar three-inch cat-back dual exhaust. So this is one fast Mopar machine. But in the dozen years since this upgrade there have only been about 3,000 miles put on the car, and so it truly has gone into young vintage collector status.
