Anyone paying attention to this classic will do a double-take. This 1963 Ford Fairlane Ranchero is a custom-built car/truck that makes sure you're likely the only one at the car show no matter the crowd. And you will be showing this one with its slick paint, custom interior, and solid V8 power.
Turning a Fairlane into a Ranchero is not just about unbolting the trunk lid. It gets the truck proportions correct by shorting the roof and pushing the interior forward. And this custom bed is actually quite useful with details like liner paint and step pads on the bumpers. It's a cool custom style, and there is a true precedent for a car/truck like this. After, the first-gen Ranchero was based on the full-size Fords, and the third-gen was based on the Fairlane. So this one likes to show us what it would look like if the Ranchero never whent down the compact road. More than just a unique Ranchero, this Ford is appealing for its overall quality. The clean lines, straight panels, bright chrome bumpers, radiant red paint, and premium white roof have the kind of quality that will have people admiring this a well-kept classic even if they don't recognize the custom style. And the GT-style wheels and dual exhaust give it a touch of sporty style.
The interior has a clean and attractive style that gives you a classic Fairlane mixed with the right subtle custom touches. We like their eye for detail. For example, the exterior is red with a touch of white, and the steering wheels and contrast upholstery stitching carries on this two-tone inside. There's even a center console with an air conditioning system (it runs modern R134a, but it will need servicing to blow cold again.) This has rear seats, and it really shows off the thoughtful quality of this build because Ford could never accomplish this with its Ranchero. This is upholstered to match the front, and it even offers good legroom. And the custom-sized roll-down windows prove how much they were thinking about details.
Another cool detail is under the hood. 1963 was the debut of the now-famous 289 cubic-inch V8. So this celebrates this with a very stock style everywhere from the golden air grabber to the generation (only found on the early ones.) But if you dig a little deeper, you see quite a well-upgraded powerhouse. This V8 now has a Holley four-barrel carburetor, an Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake, and headers. And as you check out the rather straight pipes of the dual exhaust in the undercarriage photos, also take some time to notice the overall clean style that tells you this is a confident cruiser. Plus, power steering, power brakes, and a three-speed automatic transmission make this a nice all-around driver.
