This 1986 Ford Mustang GT has that unmistakable look of a car that has been given that ideal balance of preservation and investment to be both striking and fun. After all, when your classic has a five-speed and a fuel-injected 5.0 V8 heart, you get a terrific driver with a memorable style.
Ford got the package exactly right in 1986. In an era when power was dwindling, the Mustang GT was one of the few beacons of speed. It created one of the largest aftermarket performance revolutions around, and as a result, it's extremely rare to find such a fundamentally stock-style example like this. The Oxford White paint is the factory-correct color, and it shows a nice gloss of a later respray. The bright white makes for a great contrast to the coordinating black elements, like the headlight buckets, quarter window slats, and rub strip that hugs the entire body. That awesome GT hood treatment fits the theme perfectly. Even the details are sporty, like the integrated rear spoiler and louvered quarter window trim that pays tribute to the original pony car fastbacks. And while it looks quite stock, the upgrade to the set of SVE 17-inch alloys is a terrific touch to give this GT an even more aggressive stance.
Inside, the ultra-supportive buckets are a true hallmark of this generation Mustang GT. They have terrific bolstering, and red piping got that right GT kind of style. This is a car made for driving, after all, those sport seats almost look like Recaros and the odometer is believed to reflect 130k miles (one rollover). So you will see some signs of responsible enjoyment, but that's because you'll be doing the same thing. It's loaded with power windows, a tilt steering column, a pop-out sunroof, an upgraded AM/FM/CD stereo with aux input, and provisions for air conditioning (it will need servicing to blow cold again.) So it's quite a comfortable car. And the five-speed shifter, upgraded sports steering wheel, and full factory readouts with speedo and tach make for a proper driver's car.
The 5.0-liter High Output V8 continued to evolve, and 1986 is a pivotal year for Mustang fans. This is when they would introduce sequential electronic fuel injection. With its great sound, stout performance, and impressive torque, this injected V8 made it the pony car of choice for an entire generation. While there is a huge and affordable aftermarket for these motors, this one remains refreshingly stock. The five-speed manual transmission puts complete control of the V8 firmly in your hands. Plus, there are great anytime-driving features like power steering, power brakes, and front discs. And newer investments in areas like the springs and grippy sport tires make it especially fun on the road.
The appeal of this pony car is as clear as black and white. If you're looking for a cool classic and true driver, call today!
