The exterior of this car is in extremely nice original condition. As mentioned above this car has a closed headlight conversion in 1974 which was unheard of during that timeframe. To complete the closed headlight conversion some minor bodywork had to be completed at the front of the bonnet. The Jaguar dealership did a very nice job making it all work. The body of this car is very nice throughout. When these bodies left the factory they weren’t straight with perfect gaps. When people restore Jaguar E-Types they do the bodies much better than the factory did. Stew Jones Restoration showed the MS CLASSIC CARS crew an E-Type that was taken to bare metal and on a rotisserie. That vehicles original body looked exactly like our car. They said, “We’re going to make this body much better than the factory did.” The car retains its original color of Silver which looks beautiful on this body. Since the closed headlight conversion was done the bonnet had to be repainted. The dealership did not strip any of the original paint or any of the original trim. Matter of fact there are still some tape marks on the edges of the trim and under the rear bumper. There’s also overspray on some of the gaskets if you look close enough. They actually resprayed the entire car so it would blend in nicely. They fogged in the paint into the bottom so a lot of the bottom side paint is original. Since the paint was fogged in the paint meter readings are very low in some areas which documents what they did. The paint on the car is 46 years old and has held up very well. It still presents very nicely and has recently been detailed to a brilliant shine by MS CLASSIC CARS.
The black interior of this car is also in extremely nice original condition. It’s amazing to think it’s almost 50 years old and all original. Nothing in the interior has been replaced or removed. The sun visors feel great and don’t fall down. The rear view mirror only shows slight patina on the outer edge. The dash, gauges, switches and knobs are in excellent condition. The glovebox opens and closes so nicely. The steering column still has the factory paint marks and sticker from the factory towards the lower section. The steering wheel is in beautiful condition with hardly any signs of wear. The VIN tag on the driver’s door jam is in beautiful condition.
The trunk compartment of this car is also in extremely nice original condition. The backside of the trunk lid still has the original paint and still retains the rubber caps on the emblem tabs. It also has the original yellow Ziebart Auto Rustproofing sticker.
The engine compartment of this car is also in extremely nice original condition. The chrome interior bonnet locking knobs fit and turns so nicely operating. The backside of the bonnet still retains original paint and the original emissions control sticker. The inner fenders of the bonnet were sprayed with black Ziebart Auto Rust Proofing when the car was new as documented. Some of the Ziebart overspray got on the lower engine compartment in various areas throughout. The firewall also retains original paint and the minor chips show red primer. The body tag on the firewall is in beautiful condition. It still retains all the factory paint marks and stickers throughout.
The undercarriage of this car is also in extremely nice original condition. It still retains the yellow factory inspection paint mark under the engine area.
