The 1966 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S was a terrific Mopar. It was a true pony car taking direct aim at the Mustang. So we understand why this example was restored to be a faithful classic, right down to the working AM radio. And since this has V8 power and four-on-the-floor, this highly accurate classic can also be a ton of fun.
There's nothing else on the road that looks like an early Barracuda. It has that massive wrap-around rear window (largest ever of its era), and crisp creases along the tops of the fenders. The sporty design was Plymouth's first shot in pony car wars. This one was restored to showcase exactly what made these cars so special. The trim tag tells us this is a factory black car, and it was given a high-quality respray to have a piano-like luster. And the deep shine really highlights the crisply creased fender tops, wide/imposing front end, and the well-fitting panels of a show-worthy car. This even makes sure to impress those who know their Formula S coupes with details like the correct badging, correct wheel covers, and the special Goodyear Blue Streak tires.
The red interior is also factory-correct and so this one came from the factory with one of the most desirable color combos around. The restoration made sure everything felt right with the intricate seat pattern, plush carpeting, a smooth dash, and the correct fold-down rear seat. Even the trunk is looking red and tidy. It's a highly detailed restoration with where the AM radio is still cranking out tunes, and the dome lights greet you when the door opens. It's also a true sports car driver with front bucket seats, a three-spoke steering wheel, a floor shifter, and a full gauge package with large speedo and tach.
The Formula S package guaranteed the Commando 273 cubic-inch V8 under the hood, and this is proudly on display with the bright red block within the dark inner walls. We're even told this is a warranty replacement block. While there is not currently paperwork for definitive proof, it seems like a fitting story for such an accurate-style classic. The whole package looks correct and quite tidy where even details that often get overlooked on other cars - like the exhaust manifolds - are looking great here. In fact, you'll have to look closely for upgrades (like how the Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor is hidden by the polished Commando air grabber.) It delivers the kind of lively power that makes Mopars great, and with the four-speed manual transmission, you are in firm control of it all. This is the kind of true classic that wants you to feel the road, but there are also the right driver's components like air shocks in the rear and a limited-slip rear end. And as you can see from the tidy undercarriage, you have fresher components that really let this one drive with added confidence.
It's time to be as quick and cool as a Mustang in a coupe that's far more rare and interesting. And since you're likely to take this one to the car shows, this Formula S even comes with the factory buildsheet and owner's manual for added distinction and documentation. Call today!!!
