The car runs cool in all weather with an oversized walker radiator. This car has been 100% mechanically restored and everything works as it should The car is a blast to drive. The car has manual drum brakes and manual steering so it is super simple. The engine is dressed to the max the pictures speak for themselves. The body on the car is rust free and mostly original paint. The car does have battle wounds here and there but overall is in great presentable condition. the bottom of the car has been detailed and painted, new floors were installed at some point but whoever did them must have worked from GM at some point because you can not tell they were done. Everything underside is restored, rebuilt and refinished. The interior of the car is original and usable, the car could use a headliner and package tray both are still usable and in the car but its not the end of the world. The glass chrome and seals are in great shape. Overall this car is great and very fun to drive. Genuine soft leather used everywhere: seats, side panels, visors, consoles trim, dash etc. It has 4 custom contoured bucket seats. There's a console with cupholders front and back. The side panels are sculpted and have billet handles. The instrument panel was customized and has a very clean look with relocated knobs, ignition, a/c vents and controls. It has Dakota Digital gauges with only 1,212 mi showing on the odometer. A beautiful custom wheel is on an Ididit tilt column. Want the windows down, not a problem with the NuRelic power window conversion. The wiring was updated with an American Auto Wire system. There's a Kenwood touchscreen Bluetooth stereo with cd, and backup camera. The speakers are in the kick panels, 2 more in back along with a sub woofer and amp. It also has a USB port and 12 volt receptacle. The interior lights use Buick portholes for bezels. There are new seatbelts, 3 point retractable in front. Down on the floor it has premium carpet and mats. Overhead is a cloth headliner with a customer leather wrapped center section. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: This is certainly a custom engine compartment! Hiding underneath that custom engine cover made in Canada is a GM Performance Fastburn crate motor. It's a 350 making 385 hp and 405 lbs of torque. It comes with 4 bolt mains, forged crank, aggressive roller cam, high flow aluminum heads, aluminum intake and HEI ignition. Sanderson headers have been added. The front of the motor has a serpentine belt system, polished a/c compressor, modern alternator and power steering. It also has power brakes with a Wilwood master cylinder. It runs cool with an Arctic Chill aluminum radiator and overflow bottle with dual electric fans. The firewall's been smoothed and painted. The core support and inner fenders are powder coated. Stainless hardware was used throughout. It has those billet hinges that I love so much. Under the hood is finished with an insulation pad. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The switch under the dash opens the power window for the tailgate and you reach in and pull the latch to open it. It is refinished as nicely inside the back of this car as it is up front. All the trim is leather and it has premium carpet. Under the floor compartment has the relocated Optima battery, there are remote terminals under the hood and a kill switch under the car. It also has stereo equipment, custom cloth car cover, some extra leather and paint. UNDERSIDE: The underbody on this car appears to be original and rust-free, not cut up or patched. The mechanicals have been rebuilt and upgraded. The front end steering and suspension was rebuilt. It has CPP 2 inch drop spindles, heavier front and rear swaybars, Billstein gas shocks and new springs at all four corners. The Ravishung Red paint was applied with great attention to detail then polished to a reflective finish. The panels were nicely aligned with good gaps that are better than average. All the glass including rubber seals and fuzzy strips are new. All the brightwork is nice and sparkly. The front grill was refinished and the headlights were upgraded to halogen. The stylish "bullet" rear taillights look like new, as well as all the emblems. It is rolling on a gorgeous set of chrome wheels by US Mags that are 17x7s up front and 18x8s out back. They are wrapped in a good set of performance radials. INTERIOR: Fresh and clean! The entire interior was refurbished using lots of new parts. I love the fact that the builder used the original style upholstery for a "factory" look at first glance. The headliner, sun visors, kick panels, door panels, and carpeting were also replaced. It has new seatbelts front and back. The rear shelf was also redone and JL audio 6x9 speakers were added. The dash and exposed metal was painted red with a satin finish, providing a very clean look. It was upgraded with a nice set of VHX Dakota Digital gauges that look great. Additional air vents were added under the dash for the modern air conditioning system that works with the original climate control. All the chrome is nice and shiny. The controller for the air ride system is easily accessible. It was also upgraded with a new polished tilt column and steering wheel too. The rear view mirror is new and it has a nice set of embroidered floor mats as well. The aftermarket center console has a very practical storage compartment and cup holders, but could be easily removed if you want. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Custom and contemporary! The 5.7 liter LS1 engine is rated at 355 horsepower. It is also fuel injected for turnkey reliability. Being equipped with power steering, power brakes, and modern air conditioning makes cruising a breeze. The serpentine belt drive system really cleans up the clutter in the bay. And the custom covers over the intake and valve covers really dresses things up. An upgraded aluminum radiator with electric fan keeps the powerplant cool. Everything was rewired using a Howell engine wiring harness. It has practical and pretty strut assisted billet aluminum hood hinges. The underside of the hood and fender wells are neatly painted black. The firewall is painted Ravishing Red just like the exterior. The latch mechanism was even chrome plated for an extra custom look. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The underside of the trunk lid and jamb are painted slick just like the body. The weatherstrip was replaced. Inside is nicely finished with custom cut carpet that matches the interior and also has bound edges. The air tank for the air ride suspension is mounted out of the way on the shelf and the lines are neatly routed. UNDERSIDE: Totally restored! The front end was gone through and rebuilt with lots of new parts, bushings, and hardware. 2" drop spindles were added for a nice rake and ideal stance. The upgraded airbag system allows you to adjust the ride height with the push of a button and slam it almost to the ground when parking. It also has upgraded Ridetech Fox HQ shocks plus front and rear swaybars as well. Very nice Wilwood disc brakes at all 4 wheels with slotted & drilled rotors and new lines too. The dual exhaust system was totally redone with o2 sensors and Glaspack style mufflers. Looking up at the engine everything is nice and clean with an aluminum oil pan. The 4L60E automatic overdrive transmission also looks fresh and has a tubular cross member and a new mount. The rebuilt and balanced driveshaft leads back to a Ford 9" rear end with panhard bar. In 1958 the Chevrolet became elongated and more streamlined, less of a bread box and more like a cereal box. This car sports the period trend of two tone paint jobs, now an iconic nod to a time gone by. It also hints of the jet age that would only grow in popularity in the coming years. The correct 6 cylinder engine graces this car and that's only the tip of its notable attributes. Exterior Tropic Turquoise over Artic White was chosen for the respray of this car which presents as quintessential 50's coloring. The wide front end appears less bulbous than the generation of cars it follows and the twin headlights seem to have taken their cue from the 1957 Eldorado, or any number of cars in 1957 that featured this configuration. The twin marker lights below accentuate the drama and look like little jet afterburners. The grille is low and long and consists of countless splines. The chrome here is in presentable condition but not flawless. Though not as striking as the 1957 Bel Air body trim, a broad metal strip travels the length of most of the car and is a bold design element which artfully tapers down to the continuation of a smaller strip to the back of the car. This body trim intersects the two colors delineating the change. The drip molding on the roof defines the next color change as it slopes down. Both the windscreen and back window curve around the car like domed bookends and it's a spectacular period feature. The fins are like wings and begin just behind the door and sweep back to the rear where it sends its silver border trim down and around the taillights. And those taillights are unique indeed, housed in a bezel that cradles the red light and reverse light separately with an extended centerpiece. The rear bumper is low and straight and has a gaping cutout for the license plate. 15-inch Cragar mag wheels give the pedestrian family car a bit of a racy edge. Imperfections include pitting on the door handle chrome, some paint bubbles, scratches and tiny rust spots, and some chrome that might need to be polished or replated. Interior Shades of blue and panels of white give the interior a clean airy feel and would be right at home bayside, by the water where blue water forms whitecaps in the wind. Anyway, it's very nicely done inside beginning with the door panels with white ribbed vinyl meeting a band of blue. The split bench seats are patterned in blue vinyl, white vinyl, and light blue cloth. The rear bench picks up the design and it's all in excellent condition. A new shade of blue is introduced in the steering wheel, column, and dashboard. The speedometer is horizontal and housed deep in a recess with a curved roof. Fuel and temp gauges are the only other monitors. Remember, this was considered a no frills choice for fleet cars and the general public. An AM radio is present in the center along with fan controls retained in an exaggerated protrusion of the dash, a design feature that continues to the passenger side. Three on the tree for this car and a silver center horn ring preside. The dash overall shows some patina but for a car from 1958, it's pretty darn nice. The blue loop style carpet and ivory headliner present in fine condition while the trunk is lined with a gray cloth cover and holds the spare tire. Drivetrain The 235.5ci inline 6 is in the big engine bay with lots of air around it! It is painted blue and is topped with a single 1-barrel carburetor. The 3-speed manual transmission is matched with 3.55 gears in the back while drum brakes are found front and rear. Undercarriage Copious amounts of surface rust color the X-frame but nothing appears to structurally compromise the car. The gas tank looks new and some undercoating, POR 15 maybe, appears on the floorboards and other flat panels. Coil springs handle the front independent suspension while four-link and coils are out back. Drive-Ability We love the greenhouse effect of the walls of windows and wrap-around windshield. The six cylinders with the 1-barrel motors out of the garage and clearly is not intended to win races, but runs smoothly and provides for a floating ride that absorbs road imperfections with ease. The long hood is like the bow of a boat on the bay and the steering is somewhat vague, but the big car turned the loop in fine fashion. A few inoperable items were noted including the horn, the radio, the heater blower and the fan speed slide control is stuck on high. Here's a vehicle we rarely see at the mall, a 1958 Biscayne with all the ingredients to make a great car show and weekend cruiser; iconic 50's colors, the beginning of the jet age, and an interior that is as fun to look at as it is to occupy.
