      <description>1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Hardtop

For consignment, a 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 hardtop showing 98,495 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to exemption. If you're doing a double take, we understand. This built car now wears a 1972 Camaro split bumper front end and is dyno'd at 651 horsepower.

Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.*

  Exterior
And it is that front end that gets your attention first, not because it's that of a '72 split bumper, but the blacked out trim, dark set LED headlights, and massive, arching cowl hood. While the entire car glistens with two stage medium blue metallic, the hood presents in a more matte blue with multiple dzus pins around the perimeter. In profile, intentions are clear with heavily staggered 15-inch Race Star Industries wheels wrapped in tires no older than mid 2020. The raked stance and the obvious plexiglass side windows plus the bump on the nose just look bad to the bone. Other than the power shut off, fat meats, and visible fuel pump lines, the back is otherwise pedestrian '78 Camaro with of course, the three part wing. Imperfections include chipping on the fiberglass hood, cracking paint by the door handle, various scratches, paint chips and rock chips, and paint runs on rockers.

  Interior
Carbon fiber patterned plastic door panels keep things light on the inside and we turn to the cabin that is nicely appointed and attractive with tan vinyl racing seats and bright blue racing harnesses. The rear 2+2 remain in stock configuration and are clean while up front, a tan rimmed steering wheel shares the column with a AutoMeter tachometer and shift light ahead of the stock looking instrument cluster. A racing toggle panel is to the left and an AM/FM/CD player to the right along with an added triple gauge pod. Perched on the transmission tunnel is a B&amp;amp;M shifter over tan carpet that shows some staining front and rear. Meanwhile, the perforated tan headliner looks like it's fresh from '78.

  Drivetrain
The hood comes completely off so you can access the 434ci V8 with Air Flow Research heads, a 4-barrel carburetor, headers, and a dyno sheet showing 651 horsepower. That's to the 12 bolt axle with 4.30 gears and Strange Axles, routed through a Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission. A couple of gauges, (boost and fuel pressure), are mounted on the cowl.

  Undercarriage
Race ready is the name of the game here with dual exhaust that flows through race mufflers and terminates short, under the car. There is no catalytic converter on board. Aerospace brakes make up the disc brakes on all 4 corners. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs with traction bars in back. We note some residual red sauce visible on the transmission pan but the rest is dry, and a chrome differential cover adds a bit of bling to an all business bottom.

  Drive-Ability
The sound reverberates through the mall and when out on the test loop, over the hills and valleys of Morgantown! This is an intentional car of course and lets its presence known. It has enormous straight away power and decent handling despite the tire stagger. We note the reverse lights, front turn signals, wipers, speedometer, and odometer don't work but all other functions operate as they should. We also noted the brakes are very soft. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

A mean front end, and clean interior, and an engine that's on a power trip! This streetable build is a nice combination of Camaro features and a race ready powerplant as a bonus. If this is the mix you've been looking for, step up to the bar and take a sip of this tasty little cocktail. Just be sure to buckle up.

      <description>1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Hardtop

For consignment, a 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 hardtop showing 47,230 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This is not your anemic 1978 with the emission choked 185 horsepower, so if you're looking for the classic version you had in high school, swipe left. But if you don't mind 750 horsepower on 93 octane from a Pro Street version of said car, buckle up and read on!

Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.*

Note: This vehicle is sold with a Pennsylvania reconstructed branding on the title

  Exterior
In low light, it looks black, but there's no doubt this baby's covered in two stage Dark Purple pleasantly accentuated with wide silver stripes that ride the high rising cowl hood and the decklid, swooping over the spoiler. Gone are the fender vents from the front, now showing acres of smooth purple panels from the tip of the Endura nose to the back bumper cover. Staggered width Centerline wheels are appropriately old school and racy here, the rears tucking into mini tubs that accommodate their girth. Understated from the back until your eyes and ears note the gargantuan exhaust pipes that tilt outward. The car also lacks the wheel flares and chin spoiler that would have adorned a Z in '78, and here they would likely get blown off and interfere with aerodynamics. A few spider and flex cracks and a spot of bubbling are the only imperfections on the exterior and its deep purple paint.

  Interior
The vinyl black door panels look pedestrian and clean and that's where familiarity with a stock interior ends because the next thing to greet you is a padded S&amp;amp;W 8 point roll cage surrounding the racing seats and their 4 point harnesses. A large tachometer mounts to the steering column and blocks most of the stock dash that remains, but you're really not going to need it as more gauges have been added below the dash, just under the toggle switch panel where a radio once was. A Winters shifter rises from the transmission tunnel and black carpet covers the footwells and the rear area with deleted seats. The headliner is sagging but you won't be bothered with your helmet on, and the trunk houses the fuel cell and battery box.

  Drivetrain
The bay is clean and houses an impressive looking 540ci V8 with Dart Pro1 325 heads, a Lunati cam, a worked Holley 950cfm 4-barrel carburetor, and a worked World Products Merlin intake. All of this is good for a dyno proven 750 horsepower routed through an ATI Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission sending power to the narrowed 12 bolt rear with Moser axles and 4.88 Richmond gears. Naturally, headers start the exhaust process which finds its way into collectors leading to a 4" system.

  Undercarriage
It's clean underneath and dominated visually by the massive 4" dual exhaust that flows through race mufflers on their way to their rear exit. Obviously, there is no catalytic converter on board. Suspension entails coil springs up front and ladder bars with Hal adjustable coil overs in back. Finally, brakes are configured as disc up front and drum in the rear.

  Drive-Ability
We feather this car around the test loop just long enough to confirm lights, gauges, brakes, steering, and oh yeah, the engine is working. And we find all systems go on this track ready Camaro. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

If you're ready for some turnkey track fun, hook up the trailer to your Powerstroke, (or truck of choice), check your racing license status, and head out for some fun, 1,320 feet at a time! You can sell that half baked project you've been working on all these years and start having some ground pounding fun this weekend. Life's short, saddle up!
