This is a one owner car and the LX trim denotes more standard options. More than 120,000 Crown Victorias were produced in 1997, about 10% of Ford's total production for the year. Exterior Ford touted the design of the Crown Victoria as aerodynamic and contributing to "efficiency, handling capability and quietness" and our Vibrant White example has a decidedly pointed nose that does not compromise the passenger friendly cabin and large trunk. A sloping windshield helps shed the air and rounded edges likely push through easier than a billboard. Polyurethane bumper covers not only create seamless panels, but maintain the white monochromatic look that was modern and fresh in '97, while the 15-inch wheels here carry 215/70R15 white wall tires with a late 2020 date code and less than 4,000 miles of travel according to our consignor. Tail lights that are not perfectly square create some visual interest and recognizability out back and a shoulder line pinstripe dresses up the white just a bit. Discolored and scuffed side molding is the only exterior imperfection. Interior Smartly designed door panels alternate Light Graphite and gray in a simple arrangement that includes Ford's ubiquitous oval plastic toggle switches of the era and carpeted lower panels and other than some peeling on the driver's door, all are in very good condition. Soft gray cloth covers the 70/30 split bench up front, also in great shape, and mirrored in back by a simple bench with center armrest. A leather wrapped steering wheel leads to a handsome instrument cluster all in black with orange needles and a band of simulated wood that runs the width of the dash with a slightly sculpted spot for the digital clock. Under that, we have the A/C dials and above the clock, an AM/FM/Cassette radio, and it all presents in near showroom condition. A CB radio is perched on the transmission tunnel which is covered with plush gray carpet in nice shape and the headliner above appears flawless. The large trunk is fully finished in gray cloth panels, showing a touch of use, but otherwise clean. Drivetrain Under the hood, we find a driven 4.6 liter SOHC V8, fuel injected and rated at 190 horsepower. It is backed by a 4R70W 4-speed automatic transmission, put in gear with a column shifter and routing power to the Ford 8.8" in back with 2.73 gears for smooth highway cruising. Undercarriage There's plenty of surface rust on untreated metals but the underside is otherwise clean and dry. Some residual oil on the pans don't bother us and the lack of any kind of invasive rust is a plus. A single exhaust finds the original muffler and exits out the right rear while power disc brakes are found front and back. Suspension includes coil springs at both ends with 4-link joining the party out back. Drive-Ability The 4.6 comes to life with a turn of the key, and while it doesn't have the ferocity of a Mustang GT, it's certainly no slouch in getting this car around the test loop. The ride is soft, of course, purposefully, and visibility is excellent thanks to the rear fixed windows and narrow pillars. Other than the passenger power mirror, all functions operate on this pampered Panther platformed driver. NO TITLE-SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY Exterior With a true to form 50's color palette, we are greeted with straight steel panels minding their gaps, and bathed in two tone Robin Egg Blue with Snowshoe white accenting.  The paint is faded and shows some chipping and a bit of bubbling on earlier repairs.  It is broken up by the polished stainless steel of the now famous 'Fairlane strip' which flows gracefully from the top of the front fenders down the side of the car and hits the tail lights mid fender.  Centered on the 'Fairlane strip' in the middle of the doors are great looking badging emblems with gold crown, and silver Victoria in your grandmother's handwriting.  Along the rocker panels of the car, stainless trim highlights wheel wells where some rusting is taking place underneath.  Some delaminated glass that is in somewhat clear condition but showing some wear, is accented by the Crown Victoria exclusive chrome 'basket handle' roof piece and stainless window trim.  The roof is pretty in Snowshoe White and has wonderfully curved rear windows heading toward the B pillars.  Overall the chrome shows some dimpling and pitting.  Out back, the jet-age taillight lenses look new and are topped by a small fin which houses the backup lights.  The trunk is backed by a vertically guarded chromed bumper.  Details abound, with a unique finned radio antenna mounted on the driver's rear quarter top. Door key lock cylinder covers all around, and a chromed exterior rear view mirror mounted on the driver's door.  Wide whites wrap polished moon capped wheel covers that are in a field of black steel wheels. Interior Looking like it was plucked right out of a Silk City Dining Car, the beautiful white and aqua combo has a firm but comfortable feel, as well as all the aesthetics that come with the mid 50's.  The door panels which get their cue from the "Fairlane Strip" are aqua up top, and white on the bottom.  Climb in and you'll be surrounded by aqua horizontal tufted tuck and roll inserts and ultra wide white vinyl bolsters which are on front and back benches.  The back bench is noteworthy as it has an armrest inserted and above is framed by a multiple stepped "V" with the Ford logo inside...just beautifully cool in its own way.  These seats are fronted by a perfect dash in aqua and white metal, and with all correct circular instruments. The speedo is under a curved insert in front of the original steering wheel.  All this is floating within a good looking but slightly soiled aqua low pile carpet.  The headliner is just as impressive on the inside with the stainless basket handle breaking it up the white vinyl. The trunk has had the once over with robin egg blue paint, and has an aqua carpeted liner on the bottom. Drivetrain The original 272ci V8 is looking fine with it's red painted block and intake, black valve Ford thunderbird V8 covers and a new chromed open air round liter covering.  Absolutely no corrosion is seen under the hood and we note supple hoses and a solid radiator.  On top of the engine we see a single 2-barrel carburetor, and on the back is a Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission.  All power goes rearward to a Ford 3.31 geared rear.  Noted is the Fo-Mo-Co windshield washer fluid bag hanging from the inner fender. Undercarriage Very clean and definitely rust free environment with a now black and shined exhaust environment.  A black frame, drivetrain, and floor pans show nothing but road dirt and some slight paint peel.  For the suspension we note very nicely restored independent coil springs in front, and leaf springs on the rear.  Drum brakes are all around, and a rust free exhaust with a Cherrybomb glasspack system has been installed. Drive-Ability My decoder partner in crime would be perfectly satisfied if every car was from the 50's, however variety is the spice of life, and this one has plenty of good taste.  The car starts right up, runs like a champ, and rides like a dream.  All instruments, fans etc were functioning, however we noted a fuel leak in the engine bay and the car does not come with a battery.  I wanted to take the remainder of the day off and drive to the shore, but I could not get permission...from Atlantic City to lift my curfew! If you are into 50's ultimate cool, with a smattering of creature comforts, diner  car like interior, and plenty of stainless shine, then this retro Fairlane may have your name on it.  With a color combo that was probably in your grandparents bathroom on the first floor of their rancher, it is simply dripping with the mid 1950's, and is all in good condition, running like a champ. Existing as a two-door coupe for 1955 and 1956, 24 years would pass before the Crown Victoria rejoined the Ford line-up. For consignment the 1955 debut of Ford's Crown Victoria. This particular car has all the right stuff but a lot of it isn't attached. Our consignor states that nearly everything is actually with this car trim wise and body panel wise, however it's going to need some TLC. Our consignor states that the car does indeed run but ran out of fuel a year ago and the original seat and rechromed parts are included. The good news is it is of the condition where it will be worthwhile to put the effort and dollars into this car, as these basket handle Crown Vics are stunning when completed. Exterior Slight shades of Snowshoe White, one of the factory colors, peeks through in various areas where the trim has been removed and the rest of the body is coated in an amateur respray of the original Torch Red. The Crown Victoria basket handle roof line is present on this car, but the trim has been removed. Nearly all brightwork and chrome trimming are removed, and the body presents with various trim locator holes. The red finish shows with inclusions, spray painted primer touch ups, areas of prior body work and some surface and invasive rust. Kelsey Hayes wire wheels in 14" format are in fair condition and are wrapped in newer wide whitewall rubber. Interior The shell of the interior is devoid of any hint of the factory seating and a single black leather bucket seat has been set in front of the steering wheel. Our consignor states that the original seating is available with this vehicle should you want to take this back to showroom original. The original dash is present in red and white and houses most all of the original gauges, knobs and buttons. The flooring is covered with exterior trim parts as well as some boxes of various parts allowing only small glimpses at the surface rusted steel flooring. Drivetrain A look into the engine bay and at one point there has been some work done on the engine block and intake manifold as they are a nice Ford red. Otherwise, some surface rust and paint chipping are noted throughout along with a coating of dust and patina. Newer hoses are on, and the original radiator is still there. As for the specs, it has its original 272 ci V8, which is fed by a single 2-barrel carb atop, and a Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission on back, with a 3.31 rear axle. Undercarriage Some surface rust is coating various parts, and it is lightly coating the underside of the frame. The exhaust appears fairly new, and it is a dual glass pack setup. Power drum brakes are all around. Noted as well surface rust is on the rockers, a few body hangers have been replaced in the past and new brake lines have been installed. Drive-Ability While not wanting to risk the chance of damaging the carburetor we did not add fuel to the tank. However, we did crank the engine over and it does turn nicely without any strange noises. Certainly not a perfect car, but with some TLC on the interior and exterior and you will definitely get your money out of any efforts put forth to get this "all there" car back to snuff.
