Complete body off frame restoration by the countrie's leading 57-59 Fairlane expert: Jerry Miller! Drop dead gorgeous, the colors are amazing. The list of options is impressive! EXTERIOR: The fit and finishes are superior to when it was new. The body is laser beam straight and fits right. Repainted in stunning factory colors of Dusk Rose and Mocha, the two together are amazing. The Mocha has metallic which is laid out evenly and both colors are polished like glass. The jambs are slick too. All of the chrome and trim was replaced including vent window frames, anodized inserts on each side, and all the accessories. It has optional dual mirrors, v-bar on front bumper, rocker moldings with stone shields, and trunk mount antenna. The power top is a rich Mocha brown cloth, it's very classy! On the ground is a set of sparkling Kelsey Hayes wire wheels wrapped in fat radial white wall tires. INTERIOR: The 2 tone upholstery matches the exterior spot on. It's completely restored inside. The upholstery, door panels and carpet were replaced. It also has some embroidered mats. All the metal trim was painted. It has air conditioning vents neatly installed under the dash and controls are incorporated into the originals. The dash area is restored like new, it has optional padded dash and padded visors along with power windows. The Town and Country radio is upgraded with Bluetooth and the clock now has quartz movement. I even peaked under the dash, where the power brake unit is, it looks new there too! ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Completely restored to like new! It has the 312-245hp Thunderbird Special motor that runs smooth. Every component is restored and detailed. The engine bay is painted slick and even has factory decals replaced. It features power steering and a Vintage Air system. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It's painted dusk rose just as slick as the car. The plaid mat, well liner, weatherstrip and decals were replaced. It has a restored jack and spare. UNDERSIDE: It's even beautiful underneath! The body was off the frame, every component was replaced or restored. The underbody is pristine, clean metal painted dusk rose. The steering and suspension has been completely rebuilt. The entire brake system has been redone, lines, hoses and e-brake assembly were replaced. The fuel system was completely replaced as the correct dual exhaust system with the fancy tips below the back bumper. Looking up at the motor it is still spotless. UNDERSIDE: At the time of restoration the body was removed from the frame, with the suspension and steering completely rebuilt. The brakes were gone through, and the front has been upgraded with disc brakes for improved stopping power. Dual exhaust flows through the optional and unique tips, and the fuel system has been replaced too. Looking up at the motor, everything is clean and properly detailed. The three-speed manual transmission with electric overdrive has been fully rebuilt, and out back sits a 3.70 Posi rear end, completing the high-performance package this car delivers. Exterior Looking wonderfully original, the single stage Medium Gold Metallic paint is a sign of the times and as we enter the 70's, the ornamental trim is toned down, here with just two short spears on the front fender flanking the side body molding. Its face is conservative too with a grated grille taking in quad headlights underscored by a simple chrome bumper. The front fenders drop a character line into the front doors but otherwise this is a slab sided car and horizontal surfaces are mostly flat. A sloping rear window sheds air to the long decklid, followed by a handsome rear fascia that includes sectioned, horizontal tail lights and a hugging chrome fender. 14-inch wheels have standard wheel covers and are wrapped in 215/75R14's. Imperfections include dimpling in the paint, cracking, stains, chips, rust where the window frame meets the door, paint and body issue on a door edge, filler and repaint near a wheel opening, discoloration, and some paints run up front. Interior Padded black vinyl door panels adorn this commuter and present in excellent condition, each with their own window crank. The front bench combines smooth vinyl and printed cloth inserts, all in black, a pattern repeated in back and both benches are clean. Up front, the car's sole mission of getting families from point A to point B without fanfare is spelled out in a horizontal instrument cluster, all in black and all in time capsule like condition. Even the dash pad shows no blemishes or cracks and the black and white floor mat below is matched in condition by the stitched headliner above complete with shoulder belts and sun visors. The clean trunk is a clinic in originality with rust free surfaces, a spare tire, jack and a plaid vinyl mat ubiquitous for the time. Drivetrain The engine bay is an impressive place too, here housing a 302ci V8 that boasts 220 horsepower fueled via a 2-barrel carburetor. It's mated to a C4 3-speed automatic transmission routing power to the Ford 8" in back with 3.00 gears. The car has power steering and air conditioning on board. Undercarriage There's surface rust in the typical places but the underside appears solid and dry. We note one area of corrosion on the driver's inner trunk drop off. Drum brakes are employed front and rear and single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler before exiting in back. Suspension consists of coil springs in front and leaf springs in back. Drive-Ability We fully expect to hear "Raindrops keep falling on my head" over the AM/FM/Cassette radio but for now, we're listening to the engine and exhaust which raise no red flags. The car has good power and tracks straight and its simple interior design is pleasing and a long way from 2026. All functions on this well preserved Fairlane 500 operate just as they should save for the wipers sticking from time to time, and it's time to bring it indoors where it's likely lived most of its 55 years. Exterior Approaching the car from the front is a treat for the eyes, but not outrageously different from many cars of the 50's. But walk around to the side and you're in for a true spectacle! Sure, you'll notice the traditional two tone paint scheme, here in Raven Black and Sun Gold, then the glimmering gold accent trim panel. Finally, you'll be wowed by the rear deck, an extension needed to accommodate the Continental kit at the end of an already stretched decklid necessary to stow the hardtop and its hardware. Chrome oval bezels surround the oval tail lights across the fascia which in turn, is framed in black. Back up front, the curved windshield has a robust, polished frame and vent window, a structure that stands on its own when the top is down. 14-inch wheels wear the proper covers and white wall tires and the nose features a jet age intake scoop while the grille is an elaborate geometric design. Imperfections include random scratches and chips, some blemishes in the chrome, a crack in the paint on the rocker panel, and a ding in the gold panel. Interior Yellow and black continue on the inside where diamond stitched yellow vinyl inserts on the door are framed in glossy black and both present in nice shape. Both the front split bench and rear seat, plaid black cloth in pale yellow vinyl, are completely encased in plastic protection, like your Aunt Esther's prized sofa in the 70's, and as such, remain in very nice shape with some slight compression to the driver's seat. We also note some light staining on the rear armrests, which are uncovered. Up ahead, the steering wheel and dash are a beautiful design, surrounded in black and the arching speedometer topping the aluminum plated mid panel that takes in ivory knobs, an AM radio, and clock. The carpet and headliner are both in great shape. Drivetrain Under the hood, a clean 352ci V8, rated at 300 horsepower and fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor. It is backed by Ford's Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the Ford 9" in back with 3.89 gears. Undercarriage Very clean underneath with minimal surface rust found on exhaust clamps and speckles on the frame. It's dry also with the exception of some residual oil on the flywheel cover and some grease sling from the rear U-joint. Dual exhaust flows through stock style mufflers and terminates under the bumper extension. Drum brakes are found at all four wheels and suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in back. Drive-Ability Land Ho! This is a land yacht in every way with its giant proportions, powerful engine, and a handsome helm. The car floats across our test loop and we're on older tires, so we keep things at pedestrian speeds. There's plenty of power underfoot and good visibility thanks to the wrap around windshield and pillarless sides. We note the radio is not working and more importantly, the top is not functioning, likely a result of the car sitting for too long. All the components are there, we are told and will likely need to be serviced. car was fully restored in 2005 and includes options available in 1955 included a Continental kit, fender skirts, and dual exterior mirrors.  The striking color combination is what this car was born with and is featured in the 1955 brochure on the Fairlane Sunliner, the convertible version of this car.  Exterior The two tones were always sharply contrasted and that's the case with Raven Black and Goldenrod Yellow on this stunner.  Black caps the car and drapes over the horizontal surfaces onto the top thirds of the side panels, interrupted of course by a yellow roof held up high by broad, polished pillars.  That shiny metal compliments the flying "V" side trim that starts on top of the front fenders, spilling down on the door, then shooting rearward to run the length of the car.  The Victoria may lack the picnic basket trim of the Crown, but what it gains is a pillarless opening when all side windows are down, and this was a coveted feature in the era.  The elongated rear bumper holds the Continental kit, a chrome walled black case complemented by tail light nacelles and sculpted chrome bumper.  Fender skirts cover most of the rear wheels but the fronts let us know that the 15-inch wire wheel option is at play here, wearing white wall tires.  The metalwork and paint is fantastic on the car and we could not find any glaring exterior flaws.   Interior The color combo and bright trim continue to the inside where a black upper door panels ride over yellow panels below in an array of textures, materials, and trim and if you've ever seen Elvis' TV room, one might be convinced it was inspired by this Ford spec.  The split bench front seats feature black tops and sides, a glossy black shell, and black buttoned yellow lowers with black piping.  Same in the back where yellow and black sidewalls are quintessentially 50's.  The horn ring outshines the glossy black steering wheel, not an easy task, and the two tone dashboard features the domed speedometer, backlit by mother nature herself!  Round is the theme on the functional items including the vent controls, the radio, and the clock, while an AM/FM/Cassette radio of more modern vintage is mounted under the dash.  Black loop carpet is protected by brand new yellow rimmed black mats, currently covered with plastic protectant.  The yellow headliner above is in great shape and the trunk has a fitted rubber mat over the traditional plaid mat and houses a spare tire and wire wheel cover.   Drivetrain Under the hood, more show quality goodness with a 272ci V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor and backed by a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.  The engine bay is clean and restored to original appearance.  Drum brakes occupy all four corners.  Undercarriage Nice and clean underneath with no surface rust and only residual fluids about and as such, we would classify this as a dry undercarriage.  The dual exhaust meets up with a pair of Cherrybomb mufflers before exiting through larger than stock chrome tailpipes out back.  Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back.  Drive-Ability f the exterior doesn't get your blood going, the interior is bound to wake you up.  It's an energetic color that reflects every bit of light and is tempered by the black accenting.  Meanwhile, the 272 starts right up and sounds fantastic through the Cherrybombs and finds its way to the test loop where it rides comfortably soft and provides boundless visibility via the front and rear wrap around nature of the glass.  We're thrilled to find all functions Fairlane Crown Victoria 2 Door Hardtop   For consignment, a 1956 Crown Vic with a laundry list of new items.  Essentially a partial restoration with extensive mechanical and cosmetic replacements.  This one is known as the basket handle model for the absolutely epic chrome trim that wrapped the B-pillar over the top of the car.  It's unmistakable, iconic, and along with the purely 50's design of this car, highly desirable.  Exterior Many Crown Victorias of this vintage were two toned, often with a white upper half.  So we're thrilled to see a solid colored car in its warranty plate matching Raven Black color.  There's something quite stately about a black car with big chrome trim, and this one has presence.  The grille goes side to side like a wide grin flanked by the marker lights, which are beautifully cut into the sculpted grille that has been chrome plated as part of the restoration.  The whole front looks a bit like a baby bird Thunderbird on steroids, with wide set headlights in body colored bezels.  The windshield and back window are curved to wrap around the car and the entire profile has a swept back flow highlighted by the sloping roofline, forward leaning B-pillar, and shorter rear fenders.  The side trim work is from a time when careful consideration and effort was taken to accentuate the lines of a car and more artistic than virtually anything you'll find on a modern car.  The tail lights also mirror the Thunderbird and appear like two jet afterburners.  The 15-inch wheels support white wall tires and classic hubcaps.  The red lens is at the base of the antenna and is such a cool Easter egg!  Paint flaws include some scuffs, bubbling in various spots, chips, and scratches.  Interior Sweeping lines, mixed textures, and various materials compose the door panels which are immediately indicative of the era.  The new front split bench seat covers are white vinyl with black cloth inserts in an abstract organic, plant like design.  The rear seats show a contrast in more soft tones, not pure white like the fronts, but more of an ivory beige, and have that fold down armrest much touted by Ford.  There are also wide armrests on the sides making it feel like a booth at a 50's style diner.  The way the interior chrome trim follows the lines of the rear seats is a beautiful design feature.  The dash has a whitish background and shows some age, but is entirely presentable.  The black painted dash top has some blemishes and scratches.  The speedometer is going to need a new needle and the chrome bezels on the gauges could also benefit from some restoration.  A rebuilt Town & Country AM radio is fitted into the factory location.  The black loop style carpet is new per the consignor and the perforated headliner is in good condition and perhaps a little discolored from age.  Did you know the basket handle trim is on the inside too?  Incredible!  The trunk has a plaid mat and new spare tire, all looking clean.  Drivetrain The correct and rebuilt 292ci V8 is in place fed by a rebuilt 4-barrel carburetor.  This is tied to a rebuilt Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission served by the column shifter.  Power heads to the rear wheels through a 9 inch Ford differential sporting 3.22 gears.  The engine bay is very clean with a bright red painted block and intake, Thunderbird valve covers, and aluminum air box.  Drum brakes occupy each corner.  Undercarriage A new gas tank and complete exhaust system glow under the car which otherwise is coated in surface rust.  The underside of the engine and transmissions are spotless which makes the gunk covered components around them more evident.  The rear differential is caked in thick gunk also.  Nothing a good pressure washer couldn't remedy.  Some rust through on the inner front fender is tied into the underside with a strap and there are other areas underneath that have notable invasive rust with some that have repair attempts that serve as quick fixes for something that might need a bit more attention.  Coil springs are located on the independent suspension up front while leaf springs suspend the back.  Tires are 205/75/15 with a date code of mid 2023.  Drive-Ability These big cruisers that were common pedestrian cars in the 50's are like vintage boats today.  Great visibility from the windows despite the massive B-pillar, a long hood leading like the hull of a yacht, and a smooth cloud like ride with this good running car.  A few squeaks along the way but over a nice car that presents well and stops good too!  The consignor provided us with a long list of new items in this car including brake parts, fuel lines, brake hoses as well as some items that have been rebuilt including engine and transmission.  For a complete list, call the Exterior  We are treated to straight steel panels, well minded gaps, and wonderful 2 tone Mountain Green with Snowshoe White paint scheme.  Breaking up and highlighting the panels are shiny and mirror-like nuggets of chrome trimmings and big multi-level bumpers on front and back.  Atop the hood is a jet ornament, which was definitely the theme of times to come.  Just below is a perfect cloisonné Ford shield badge.  On the front quarter are the beginnings of the iconic swoop spear which starts just above the headlights, and runs towards the mid door where it takes a dive downward then levels off to trim the delineation between the green and white.   Large chrome surrounds for the windows and on the rear B pillar a wide wrap trim, which thins out and runs to the end of the car on top of the rear fenders.  On back, 2 simple round tail lights with a pointed backup triangular shaped backup light just above.  The green covers the lowers and sides as well as the roof of the car, and the white is on the hood, upper sides and trunk.  What a great combo.  The body panels do show some rust bubbling which is mostly on the lowers.  A shout out to all 4 corners with their dog dish style wheel coverings wrapped in wide whites.  I've got it made in the shade. Interior More excess in the form of attention to detail and use of multi colors from the same color way on the door panels.  Using shades of cool green and white, the door panels have a curved streak stretching across them.  All these curve and form areas for the door handle, door pull and window crank to shine, and they do very nicely.  Speaking of shining, the sills are an eye catcher in the green.  Slipping our eyes inside, we see front and rear benches stretching from door to door, and covered in white vinyl uppers and bolsters with blue green vinyl smooth inserts and lower backs.  Fronting these luscious seats is a metal dash, in full restored style.  A turquoise blue dash top and lowers matches the seats.  A crescent gauge cluster has steel blue backgrounds, and just below a  smattering of knobs and pulls.    A blue/green bakelite big steering wheel fronts the dash, and in dash central are round temp slider panels, radio and a clock, not unlike the tail lighting and looking jet age fer sur.  Blue carpeting floods the floors, and above is a tight blue headliner.  Neato Man. Drivetrain Under that big hood, is a correct for the car 272ci V8 engine looking nicely restored on its surfaces.  It shows in a painted red block with red cylinder heads and black Ford badged valve coverings.  It is topped by a 2-barrel carburetor, and on the back is a 3 speed Ford-O-Matic  pushing power rearward to a  Ford 9 inch 3.31 rear axle.  Showing its correct silver painted high hat oil bath for cleaner and the Fo-Mo-Co window washer fluid bag, the engine bay is fairly clean, hoses are supple and like new as is all wiring and belts.  'Cmon snake lets rattle! Undercarriage Nicely preserved noting some mild to heavy surface rust depending on what you are looking at.  A new fuel tank is now on and newer stock style exhaust.  Floor pans and rockers are showing some surface rust, patina and road dirt from many years of accumulation.  Independent coil springs for the front suspension and leaf springs are on the back.  Drum brakes are noted all around.  That razzes my berries. Drive-Ability A quick starter, and just a dreamy car to drive.  It is all working and idles like a dream, and it's a good dream.  She does pumps out some smoke and may be in need of a ring job.  The car accelerates smoothly going through the gears and up to a smooth cruising speed.  The ride is excellent.  Cornering is good for 1955, and stopping is very quick with the drum brakes.  The radio is non-functional and the fuel gauge does not read the fuel level.  Motion the car hop over, I need a malt! A multi-owner car, where it underwent a litany of restoration and modifications over time.  An interior recovered much like the original,  drives like a dream, and a real head turning cruiser, bestowing our Hallowed Halls here at Classic Auto Mall, and ready for the turn-key taking.  I'm digging it.  All 4 doors of it.  Towney.
