      <title>1969 Harley Davidson E</title>
      <link>https://www.hotrodhotline.com/forsale/vehicles/harley_davidson/e/1969/listing/236827</link>
<description>1969 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Motorcycle

"Harley-Davidson equipped the Electra Glide with electric start beginning in 1965, but the big change was to the Panhead engine the next year. The new "Shovelhead", (named because of the shape of the valve cover), had an aluminum head with a different shaped combustion chamber, and rocker arms attached to the rocker cover instead of to the head itself. While the base FL produced 54hp, the FLH made a full 60hp. The Electra Glide was a serious long distance tourer with a top speed just under 100 mph and a dizzying array of optional extras. By 1969, the factory "King of the Highway" package included a fiberglass fairing on the handlebars, hard saddlebags and a top case at the rear." Hagerty.com

For consignment, a 1969 Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle showing 30,541 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Only about 7,300 1969 Electra Glides were produced and this survivor presents in excellent condition and has the King of the Highway accessories. Please note that this bike is fresh out of long term storage and will need some TLC before you ride off on your tour.

  Exterior
Period confirming Gold paint colors the fenders, top half of the tank in conjunction with a flat black lower half, and the frame around the windscreen, while cream colored saddle bags are hitched on back flanking a parcel rack. Electra Glide in script emblems are expressed on the front fender that is also trimmed in stainless and capped by an engraved plate up front mirroring the shape of the Harley badges on the gas tank. The headlight is housed in a robust, steel encasing and flanked by fog lights above dark amber lights. Out back, red marker lights cap the end of a metal band over which the tail light presides and another stamped plate decorates the fender. Our black leather saddle is adorned with a row of rhinestones in back.

  Functionality
Controls are sparse on the handlebars and a single gauge includes an odometer and trip odometer. Footboards instead of pegs makes cruising easy behind the high windscreen while front and rear crash bars add some fitting width of the bike. The locking hard cases in back afford plenty of storage potential and have rounded tops and an aerodynamic rear cant.

  Drivetrain
On board we have the 74ci shovelhead V-twin, rated at 60 horsepower and receiving fuel through a Tillotson 1-barrel carburetor. The 4-speed manual transmission spins the rear wheel with a chain driver and drum brakes are front and rear. The dual exhaust is shiny all the way through, and especially as it terminates through chrome mufflers. Suspension consists of a telescopic fork in front and a swing arm with coil overs in back.

The following year, in 1970, AMF took control of Harley-Davidson so this is the last model year before that period. This is a clean bike with a classic look that still works well today, nearly 60 years after production.
