<description>1969 Mercury Cougar Eliminator – Family‑Owned Since 1970 – Documented, Award‑Winning, and Exceptionally Preserved This 1969 Mercury Cougar Eliminator is a truly special example, finished in its original and striking Yellow and cherished by the same family for more than five decades. My father purchased this Eliminator for my mother in 1970, and it has remained with us ever since, passing to me in 1999. Always kept in the San Francisco Bay Area, it has benefited from careful ownership, consistent maintenance, and respectful preservation throughout its life. Power comes from a 390ci V8 paired with a C6 automatic transmission and a 9-inch open rear end with 3.25 gearing—an ideal combination for smooth, confident performance. The original engine block was replaced in 1975 with a correct 390ci block while retaining the original heads. A full engine rebuild was completed in 2006 at approximately 130,000 miles, along with a complete front and rear suspension rebuild. The transmission was rebuilt in 2008 at 137,000 miles. The car starts easily, runs strong, and drives with confidence, fully capable of long road trips without issue. Cosmetically, the car presents as a solid #2– / #3+ condition example. In 2017, it received a full exterior repaint, with all rust professionally removed and replaced with new metal—no shortcuts taken. The front seats were restored using NOS Comfort Weave vinyl to maintain factory‑correct appearance and feel. A custom sound system has been installed while retaining a stock look. The original stereo and speakers are included with the car. The few times this Eliminator has been shown, it has earned class awards, and it was recently featured in the American Muscle Car Calendar (August 2025). Documentation is exceptional: a book of records and receipts, 50 years of registrations, and the original window sticker—an increasingly rare and valuable piece of history. This is more than a car. It is a well‑documented, award‑winning Eliminator with provenance, authenticity, and soul. After many wonderful years, it is time for the next caretaker to enjoy, preserve, and appreciate this remarkable Cougar.
