Exterior Yeah yeah there's junk in the trunk, but upfront will not be outdone with the chromed double D sized dagmars leading the way in front of the toothy grille and affixed to the wrap around bumper.  A long hood scoop is chromed on its edge, and on either side are "frenched" headlights in single circular form.  Laser straight and rust free steel is bathed in a nice coating of white paint throughout.  This finish is not without faults, there is ample bubbling on the wrap under lowers as well as chipping in various areas that are starting to turn to surface rust.  There is also plenty of chrome trimming to accent it, including some wide trim side spears, window surrounds, lake pipes, chromed wire wheels, B-pillar wraps to go with the wrap around glass, rear quarter bump out trimmings just before the rear tire and massive rear tail light bezels.  Of course we can't leave out the larger than life continental bumper.  Dual exhaust peeks out of the back bottom and the spare on the bumper is sans its covering or tire for that matter, as it is simply an inflated tire tube mounted on a steel wheel.  Wide whites wrap the 15-inch chrome wire spoke wheels and some search lighting is on either side.  What exactly were people looking for???  Fill me in so I can write about it. Interior Here we go off to the interior races with red uppers in vinyl and a curvaceous chrome delineator along with actuators and cranks and then some slightly soiled cream vinyl lowers and a red vinyl armrest in the middle.  The sills are red painted steel and match the vinyl pretty well.  Sills on the passenger doors is chipped and peeling.  Inside, 2 large benches welcome passengers with short tuck and roll inserts in vinyl and red vinyl uppers and bolsters.  Seat belts have been added and these reside under a red vinyl headliner that is nicely preserved.  Red carpeting is on the floors and the car has some flaming graphic floor mats.  A large two tone white and black steering wheel with slightly cracked bakelite rim and a full interior chrome horn ring is fronting the original dash.  It is an impressive array of futuristic rounded over panels protruding from the dash front which has a central crescent visored speedometer and two side "trays" with dice topped levers for airflow, temperature controls, and fan speed to drivers right.  Below are more knobs and pulls for various controls and the ignition.  In the center of the red painted full metal jacket rounded over dash is a clock and just below an aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette radio.  Below this is a trio of aftermarket gauges in a faux wood panel.  Dice are being rolled all over in this interior as toppers for the levers, shifter, and even hanging in fuzzy form from the rear view mirror.  LET IT RIDE!! Drivetrain Under the hood in a somewhat dusty. but not corroded or rusted, engine bay sits a later model 302ci V8.  It is topped with a 4-barrel carburetor and has a C4 3-speed automatic transmission on the back.  There is a Ford 9 inch rear axle in use and dual exhaust and glasspack mufflers are on and underneath.  So don't be fooled by the faux lake pipes. Yes, it's a "breezeway" car with a roll down rear window, 36,466 original title verified miles and all original condition! Bathed in Castilian gold and the interior fabric with its metal thread to die for, it's a real 60's time capsule. Roll down that rear glass, (just part way otherwise it will buffet!), slip inside and let's go into the way back machine Peabody. Exterior A chromed inward V shaver style front grille has dual wide bezel headlights on either side and it leads the way proudly. A wide curved wrap around bumper is below and now we can talk about the steel, of which I can mention has no rust, plenty of patina as it is original Castilian Gold paint from the factory. The gaps are well minded, the doors have nice chromed window framing and the roofline is truly unique in its own cool way particularly on that B pillar. A long, LONG trunk line sporting a tasteful fin on either side frames another "shaver" styled back end chrome piece that has 3 Dixie cup shaped tail lights on either edge and a near perfect chromed bumper below. Badging looks just fab and oh that roll down rear glass, no other car that was even remotely successful can tout having that. This, a pre A/C car that boosted Mercury sales in '63. The car rides on 14-inch wheels wrapped in 215/75R14 thin whitewall, (like the ties of the era), tires. Groovy and hip in a West Coast kinda way. Also showing some success in life, as it's a Mercury. Interior Now we're talking' as we swing the doors, it's the money shot with panels that interplay gold stitched tuck and roll vinyl with a warm cream vinyl and thin chrome strips as delineations. Rich looking shiny cranks and the paddle actuator in the front of the armrest complete the package. Take a deep breath and breathe it in, (I mean the 60's are about to flood your senses), as we sit upon probably the coolest retro seat coverings my bottom has experienced! Yes kids we are talking stitched with metal thread in gold tuck and roll vertical and square pattern for the seats and backs in broadcloth. On the tops, a thinner tuck and roll broadcloth in gold make an appearance. Breaking up these gold panels are the warm cream vinyl with just enough width to add interest that you cannot look away from. On the center of these "stripes" is a gold thin vinyl piece to break it up as well...just genius. And let me tell you this seating is just beautifully preserved, (do I sound like a used car salesman??!), I'm just in love! Ok, on to the dash where I'm on the stick of the Millennium Falcon when I look through the two tone plastic cream and gold steering wheel, very large and in charge. I see a curved speedo within a brushed aluminum field, those low original miles on the odometer, and just below a lineup of round visored chrome bezel gauges. And below that more candy for the eyes with a curved inward ribbed chrome background panel housing the ignition, and a lineup of 60's style pulls and knobs. All this mounted in a gold metal shaped dash front. The chrome and ribbed curved action continues as we move across the dash to the temp sliders, radio, and clock all with in more vertical ribbed chrome, ( I almost can't take it!), and finally to the glovebox with ....you guessed it vertical ribbed chrome and a metal gold painted bottom and that just the door. Ahhhhh I'm ready for a cigarette! Actually I need to tell you that the floors have clean gold carpeting and the headliner is a tight warm white stitched broadcloth. Now hand me that match. Drivetrain Under that long hood sits an original unrestored low mileage 390ci V8 it has a 2-barrel carburetor and a Cruise-O-Matic multi range 3-speed automatic transmission. The rear axle is a Ford 9 inch with 3.50 gears. Stock style single exhaust is noted and a large circular gold painted small snout air cleaner cover tops this original mill. Undercarriage To the lift Batman! And here we see some surface rust, slight peel off of the undercoating, and lots of patina. A new fuel tank is on, and the floor pans and rockers are structurally sound. Some road dirt has embedded itself in the suspension which is front independent coil springs and rear leaf springs. Drum brakes are all around. Drive-Ability Ok I'll buy the car just sitting in it, but I digress, as I did start it up and ran it a bit and even gave it the gold star treatment of taking it through the next door McDonald's drive through. It ran like a champ, accelerated nicely and smooth with a cushy 60's marshmallow ride along with bias free braking. All functions are working even the rear glass rolls up and down seamlessly. Exterior Leapin' lizards the car is in the air in front...well, actually it's not it just looks the part.  This is due to the front bumper being long gone, an I beam and just some leaf springs is for the front suspension.  There is an aluminum bar replacing the front bumper and 15-inch Weld Draglite wheels add to the effect and these are wrapped by mini 25x7.50-15 rubber.  The grille and its egg crate are now lost to time and there is however a central horizontal cascading chromed bar with a USN badge in the center, ("Oh we are...the old one!" Said the marching monkeys in the wizard of OZ.).  The hood is pinned and has a "merican" flag in the center and directly behind is a hood scoop.  On either side are a single bezeled circular headlight on the edge of the front quarters.  As we move back, the car has its original doors and bump out rear quarters, and this is a good thing because now it's running on 15-inch American Racing Torque thrust wheels with big 295/50R15's on back.  Smoke 'em if ya got 'em!  Yellow traction bars are seen on the bottoms of the leaf springs.  The roofline and windows are pure 1954 Merc with some black trimming weather-stripping.  This presents a nice contrast to the exterior white paint which is very nice and has just a touch of rust and bubbles seen on its lowers.  On to the back of the car where it's more '54 Merc with a nicely rounded trunk and rear fenders that have some angled outward vertical wrap around tail lights.  A matching wrap around to the undulating fender bumper is on and has a matte finish feel.  Stickers for the rear glass, and hint of this snarling side winding exhaust pipes snaking and sneaking their way behind the front tires to a low end of the front quarter exit wrap the package up nicely.   Interior Near perfect door panels have smooth red vinyl and some lazy chevrons in shiny chrome trimming them, as well as shiny actuators, cranks and an armrest.  Pure racing buckets in straight back form sit on some tube stock stilts which float upon a rubber floor.  In the center is a big black metal console with a few levers, a push button and a toggle.  A lock box is on the top tier of this console.  The back seat has been removed and now a rubber mat covers the floors.  In the center is a B&M shifter with a skull topper.  The dash has the underpinnings of the original Merc dash, nicely rounded over and all steel but has been painted with red texture paint.  In front of the driver there is a custom shiny polished aluminum dash front panel housing various modern black faced gauges and a REBEL etched badge in the center.  A tachometer is on the dash top and a black rally steering wheel is fronting the dash.  Also noted is an aftermarket AM/FM/CD radio.  Above a smooth red vinyl headliner is in. Drivetrain Looking very snazzy in the freshly painted black engine bay, a red block and valve covered 283ci V8 now resides.  It specs out as a 1964 version and on top is an Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carb.  On the back is a 2-speed automatic Powerglide automatic transmission.  Headers are on, and these melt into the aforementioned straight pipe.  A Ford 9 inch rear axle smokes the tires. Undercarriage Fully restored with a fresh coating of black paint, we note a new fuel cell, some traction bars and leaf springs for the back with drum brakes.  For the lighter front end, an I beam with leaf springs is on and disc brakes live here.  All is very solid and looking like new with no rust or road dirt to speak of.
