I bought it from Ray who was an airplane mechanic who takes air plane apart and put back together and fly on the sky with them. He built the car around 1979-1981. He bought a rust free porsche 914 2.0 fire red color 914. He documented all the steps of the conversion. I do have the pictures and the documents for the car. It was built with Renegade kits ( engine to transmission kit, water pump kit, alternator kit..... He put in the car a chevy 350 v8 5.7 engine which he built by his drag racing engine builder friend ( I have the pictures as well ) Engine has a lot work and fast and strong approximately 500 HP. <description>1973 Porsche 914 1.8 Targa

For consignment, a 1973 Porsche 914 1.8 Targa with a title verified 74,387 actual miles. This one has been converted to a Flachbau Porsche, or slant nose, a style inspired by the legendary 935 race car.

  Exterior
Two stage Bahia Red covers the car, a color that immediately gets attention, just before you notice the streamlined nose behind the smooth bumper that blends seamlessly with the front valance. Marker lights take the place of fog lights and all black is removed from the face. From the front fender to the rear fender, it's standard 914 with the black targa top, smooth door handles and overall diminutive profile. Out back, things get customized with a smooth rear fascia that blends with the quarter panels seamlessly while cutouts are provided on the valance for twin exhaust exits. The tail lights remain the same but take on a cleaner, more flush appearance the the new bumper, especially in red. 15-inch Minilite replica wheels carry 195/65R15 tires with a late 2019 date code. Areas of cracking paint and filler repair along with some bubbling and excess paint are noted as imperfections on the exterior.

  Interior
Tidy black door panels cover the narrow entry points adorned with the basics, door pull and elbow rest, window crank, and door opener, and both present cleanly with some slight warpage on the driver's header panel. Inside, tall black tuck and roll styled bucket seats sit on the floor, looking great and providing a go kart like experience with textured black vinyl inserts. In front, the four spoke upright steering wheel presents itself to the driver and frames the simple instrument cluster with three dials, the tach squarely in the middle. The textured mid panel will look familiar to VW owners and house functional knobs, the vent lever panel, and an AM/FM radio, reserving space on the right for a small glove box. The relatively flat floor is home to the shifter rising from a slight hump, all covered in gray carpet in good condition while the targa top is dressed in a flannel gray covering. The rear trunk and front frunk both presented cleanly with fitted carpeted mats in each.

  Drivetrain
Under the mid panel grille is a 1975cc flat four cylinder rated at 84 horsepower and the fuel injection has been replaced with dual 1-barrel carburetors. A 5-speed manual transaxle is attached and routes power through 4.429 gears.

  Undercarriage
Overall clean underneath with a belly pan taking up a good part of the real estate. We note some previous repairs on the pan, nicely sealed and coated. Dry conditions are found on the engine from which dual exhaust cleanly emit finding their way to a stock style muffler that sends out two exhaust pipes which meet splitters creating four polished tips. Both front and rear suspension are independent with Macpherson struts in back. Disc brakes are supplied to all four wheels.

  Drive-Ability
There are few cars that provide a true go kart experience and the Porsche 914 is one of them. You sit low, very low, as the 914 moves through the test loop. The handling is very responsive and visibility is good, while the 84 horses provide all you'll need for a pleasurable ride. During our test, we note the horn, heater blower, and reverse lights don't work. The wipers park themselves midway on the windshield. Beyond these things, all operable items in the car work as they should, including the pop up headlights. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Your Porsche collection, and Porsche experience, is not complete without a 914. Thirty years ago, they were relegated to the role of outcast to the elite. Today, they are the elite and well sorted examples like this are uncommon, desirable, and going in one direction in value. Pop this slant nose in your garage and enjoy weekend jaunts and the relatively newfound adoration of the Porsche clubbers.

Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (that's more than 8 acres!). <title>1973 Porsche 914</title>
      <link>https://www.hotrodhotline.com/forsale/vehicles/porsche/914/1973/listing/211067</link>
      <description>1973 Porsche 914

Here's how the 914 came to be, according to Classic Motorsports: In the late 60s, Porsche needed a replacement for the 911's low-rent four-cylinder cousin, the 912. At the same time, VW needed a replacement for the Karmann-Ghia that would ideally be more than just a fanciful-bodied Beetle. Perhaps over some hefeweizen and sauerkraut (these are the only things I know about Germany) Ferry Porsche and VW executive Heinz Nordhoff hammered out an agreement where their respective companies would build the car together.

For consignment the joint venture between Porsche and VW in the form of a 1970 Porsche 914. This air-cooled boxer style mid-engine car has the engine of a VW and suspension of a Porsche. Styling was a mixture of square and rectangle design with some aero thrown in for giggles, and an open targa top of you wished. Hidden headlights, and mid-engine design lasted until 1976.

  Exterior
They call me mellow yellow....Quite Right!, and we can call this one mellow yellow, (actually it's officially Saturn Yellow). With its early 1970's design making use of the square and rectangle, we see straight steel bathed in yellow. This exterior has just a few minor scratches to speak of on the body, otherwise all else is excellent. It has the appearance group package which includes chrome bumpers and side sail panels. Hidden headlights, plus driving lights and a right side mirror. On top is the removable panel that is supported in front by the windshield and in back by the small flying buttress B pillars and vertical rear glass. Some black mesh venting just below the window keeps the mid-engine cool, and has P O R S C H E badging attached. Horizontal tail lighting wraps the rear quarters and just below is a shiny bumper with a dent or two in the chrome. Mahle alloy wheels grace all corners and even an additional 5 wheel as the spare is the same.

  Interior
Simple small but very ergonomic thin semi high back black vinyl buckets with sparse padding awaits the passengers. The consignor states this is the original interior. The console gauge package rises from the console to the dash. Upfront the original dash pad with no cracks or errors is seen, and black carpeting covers the floors. This car also has R134 Port install A/C, and AM/FM radio. The A/C is a very desirable option o these. The targa removable top is new but appears just a bit faded on top. Also a cushion on the console allows a restful space for your right arm.

  Drivetrain
Mid-engine means Mid-engine, and this is true looking under the hood, and lifting the trunk and you'll be saying "look ma!...no engine!" Well kids, it's under that mesh panel just below the rear glass. Yes, a 4-cylinder engine is shoehorned into this space reserved for it. It has seen a custom rebuild by a 36 year certified Lancaster County Porsche tech. The mill has been increased to 2100 plus cc. The mill has been line bored, oversized pistons and cylinders are inside and performance cams have been added. It is topped by a 1-barrel carburetor and has a 5-speed manual transmission on the back. There is a 4.429 final drive on the rear axle. Consignor states less than 500 miles have been out on this newly rebuilt drivetrain.

  Undercarriage
Some slight patina is noted on this aero paneled undercarriage. Independent suspension is all around as are disc brakes with new calipers, master cylinder and pads. Like new, (and indeed it is), dual exhaust is exhaling out the back of the car. The clutch has also been rebuilt with a resurfaced flywheel. Also, the fuel tank has been etched and coated. Several new seals are also seen throughout.

  Drive-Ability
A fun little Porsche that exhibits nice handling capabilities. The interior was comfortable, and surprisingly roomy. The new tires stuck like glue and all functions were working

An added extra appearance group, console gauge package, Port install AC R134, 15 inch Mahle wheels, and a console cushion make for a visually pleasing sports car for sure. Yellow paint is looking good, slight fading on the vinyl targa top, and a clean interior. Don't waste too much time thinking, just do it and the Holy Grail of the 914's will be yours!
