1996 Volkswagen Transporter

1996 Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi- Imported From Mexico- Passed US Customs/Clean MI Title- Water Cooled 1.8L Fuel Injected 4 Cylinder- 4 Speed Manual Transmission- Numbers Matching Drivetrain- Serviced by German Auto Service LTD- 71k Kilometers/44k Miles- Clean and Fun Example Few vehicles carry the cultural weight and universal charm of the 1996 Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi. Known around the world as the VW Bus, the Volkswagen Type 2 has long symbolized freedom, adventure, and simple, honest motoring. From surfers chasing waves to families chasing sunsets, the Kombi earned its place as one of the most recognizable vehicles ever built. As once noted by Popular Mechanics, the Microbus was so original in concept that it took more than a decade for true competitors to emergeeffectively becoming the original minivan and a cultural icon all at once.Offered here is a 1996 example imported from Mexico, presenting as a clean and well-preserved tribute to that enduring legacy. Finished in classic white over a two-tone gray interior, this water-cooled Kombi reflects the later evolution of the Type 2 while retaining its unmistakable silhouette. Showing just 71k kilometers, averaging fewer than 2,800 km per year since new, this bus has clearly benefited from pride of ownership. It has successfully passed U.S. Customs and carries a clean Michigan title, ready for its next chapter on American roads. The exterior remains impressively straight and well maintained. The paint finish retains a smooth gloss, body panels align properly, and the distinctive painted front grille, signifying its water-cooled configuration, is clean and free of damage. Extensive cabin glass and lighting lenses are clear, factory VW badging remains correctly mounted, and the original 14-inch painted wheels with chrome VW-embossed hubcaps add authentic character. Minor roof scratches are noted, but overall presentation reflects careful stewardship and low mileage.Inside, the gray-themed cabin is inviting and functional. Front high-back bucket seats show only light wear consistent with gentle use, while gray carpeting and trim panels remain tidy. In the rear passenger compartment, accessed through the sliding side door, a forward-facing bench seat folds flat for sleeping, complemented by well-kept custom wood cabinetry and storage cubbies. Black-and-white checkered curtains accent the windows, reinforcing the bus's vintage spirit. The clean headliner, simple VW dash layout, floor-mounted 4-speed manual shifter, and upgraded audio head unit complete a practical yet charming interior space designed for road trips and weekend escapes.Power comes from the numbers-matching 1.8-liter, fuel-injected, water-cooled inline-four mounted at the rear, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The engine bay is clean and properly presented, with no signs of aftermarket modification, and the chassis remains straight and undisturbed underneath. Full-length coolant lines from the front-mounted radiator are intact and correctly routed, underscoring the thoughtful engineering of these later Kombis. Clean, honest, and ready for adventure, this 1996 Type 2 Kombi captures the spirit of peace, love, and open highwayswaiting for its next caretaker to turn the key and set out toward the horizon.

1965 Volkswagen Transporter

1965 volkswagen bus This is a factory German 11 window standard sunroof (golde) walk-through bus with factory belly pans. It was originally sea blue/blue white color scheme. At some point, the previous owner had built it into a camper of sorts. Since I've acquired it, I bought a new full width middle seat (which it came with from the factory, oddly enough, though this one is a WW repro) and a rear seat. I bought a full Sewfine interior kit, which I installed myself. I've never done it before and screwed up in a couple places. It's by no means perfect, but it made me happy to learn and do it myself. New window rubber and door seals all the way around. (minus rear hatch seal) Doors are still super tight with new gaskets. The transaxle is strong. The engine runs well, though at high rpms once it warms up, it has an intermittent grinding sound. Previously written:Anything above 50 mph or so, the noise shows up. I have identified the noise as being an engine issue. When I rev it in neutral after the engine is warm, it makes the noise in the higher rpm range. I've subsequently shimmed the front pulley of the alternator and that seems to have made a significant change with the engine noise. I just completed a 45 minute drive to include the freeway going up to 70, and the noise was no longer present. Seems like it is/was an alternator/fan issue. It has been hit in the nose and has bondo there and in a few other places around the bus. I've replaced any major cancer, which was the cargo floor just below the cargo doors, the bottom of both b-pillars and the battery tray. There are a few small holes maybe a cm in the front floor. I had the speedo rebuilt by Orange County Speedo. All vin markings and m-code plate are present. You're likely to be the only one at a VW show with a standard sunroof. These are extremely rare.fuel: gas odometer: 99999 title status: clean transmission: manual Please Note The Following **Vehicle Location is at our clients home

1972 Volkswagen Transporter

1972 VW Transporter Type 2 runs smooth, drives great, shifts smooth, and stops amazingly! This Bus was my daily driver all through high school. For the past 8 years, I have been traveling and living abroad so I haven't had much time to road trip. He is a trooper in all weather. There are no mechanical issues at all. I have regular maintenance done by my friend and old VW Pro that has been restoring and fixing buses most of his life. I can give you his contact info for future maintenance if you are local. I have the original Owner Operator Manual with Maintenance records ending at 42000 miles. In July of 2013, I wrote in my log book that it was at 59235 miles. We have been camping all over the Pacific NW and even went to Paradiso at the Gorge one year. Ran great in over 100+ degree weather. I special ordered the tiles from the UK, madmatz. There is no visible body rust, and there was none on the interior when we gutted it 10 years ago. Seals all around are in great condition. The entire interior of the bus body has been sealed and lined with Dynamat Heat Barrier and Sound Deadening Mats. We made the jump seat, table, and under-seat cabinet. Lots of extras. I have the cot that can be installed in the front. A set of studded snow tires & propane heater for winter drives. Starts up great and runs great in freezing weather. Driven 273,619 miles The windshield has a new crack in it from the new road construction. My bus mechanic quoted me about $300 to replace it. The fuel gauge is a little wonky but it does drop to tell me that I'm getting low on fuel. The blinker control needs to be adjusted because you have to manually flip it after you complete your turn. I took the curtains out to wash them so you can choose to put them back up or not.
1978 Volkswagen *VW* Bus 4 Cyl Manual Transmission 98K miles New paint, the repaint is good quality and shows professional workmanship. Seats, chrome wheels 17-inch 205-40-17 inch tires , weather seals on doors and all windows. There are a few minor scratches here and there around the vehicle. The underside shows areas of surface rust. The front bumper shows a couple minor rock chips. There is an area where the rubber seal has separated on the front driver's door area of the vehicle. There is no evidence of water leaks. I checked the vehicle with a magnet and found it to stick all around but was weaker in the lower panels. Not excessive. No leaks were found around the aftermarket sunroof. The roof pop-up works and is secure, but there are a couple areas where the screen has holes. Interior The sun-visors shows wear and tear. Both of the sun-visors are a little loose the seats are aftermarket. The inner door panel on the passenger side is missing the arm rest. The interior trim is in good condition for the engine to start and run well. The transmission engaged in both forward and reverse with no issues. The brakes were firm, and held the vehicle properly. The engine is seeping some oil from the underside. There were no drips at time of inspection. This area should be cleaned off and rechecked to verify the source of leak or leaks. A visual inspection of the steering and suspension showed no obvious issues -Vehicle is on consignment and at our clients home -Please Call First and talk to a rep at 231-468-2809 EXT 1 -Showroom is by appointment only Please Call -If you would like a FREE Listing please visit our consignment page or Call

1976 Volkswagen Transporter

1976 Volkswagen Bus – Project This 1976 VW Bus is a non-running project and will need to be towed. The title lists it as a 1967, but the VINs match; the discrepancy is believed to be a DMV transposition error. The engine previously ran, but while driving uphill it backfired, emitted some black smoke, and then would not turn over. The engine may be rebuildable. Prior to this issue, electrical systems were functioning properly. The body is rust-free, with only minor surface rust on the inside of the rear bumper. A solid, straight Bus with good bones that needs mechanical attention—ideal for someone looking for a restoration or engine swap project.
1975 Volkswagen Type 2 Camper Bus This 1975 VW Type 2 Bus is a well-cared-for two-owner example with a total of 72,800 miles. The first owner sold it at 38,000 miles, at which time the current owner rebuilt the engine. Approximately 34,000 miles have been driven since the rebuild. The exterior was also repainted by the current owner, and the bus has been garage-kept for roughly half of its life. Recent maintenance includes new tires, new battery, all new tie rods, and a replaced steering column buffer. The camper equipment is in excellent working condition, retaining its original plaid upholstery, and the pop-up sleeper operates properly. Condition Notes: The carburetor will need an overhaul, and 2nd gear is difficult to engage. The sale includes a wheel jack, tool box, and spare battery lights. A solid, largely original Type 2 camper with documented ownership history and great potential for continued enjoyment or light mechanical sorting.
1979 Volkswagen Transporter

1979 Volkswagen Type 2 Bus

For consignment, a 1979 Volkswagen Type 2 bus showing 44,644 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This one presents in an iconic two tone exterior and Volkswagen's infamous simple and efficient interior.

 Exterior
Mistaken for no other vehicle, the distinctive Type 2 is an upright and narrow ride with a dramatic two color paint scheme, in this case Mars Red under Alpine White, augmented by white painted 14-inch wheels with chrome hubcaps and red VW logos, a nice touch. Up top is a roof rack, adding to the chrome tonnage that include front and rear bumpers, light rings, and polished twin exhaust tips underneath. Long windows create an open greenhouse and the ribbed intake ducts behind them add character to this slab sided wagon, while wheel openings that vary in size create more visual interest. It's all in very nice shape and imperfections noted include some chips that have caused exposure and surface rust, rough paint in seams, blistering over a rear wheel and various other places, evident filler patchwork near front bumper, a dent in a hubcap, and bubbling of the black detail on the bumper.

 Interior
The integrated vent is a cool detail on the two front doors, but the gray vinyl door cards and white paint look like they were in a fight and lost. Things are better inside where low back bucket seats with texture weave vinyl present in good shape while the middle short bench shows some wear and we find the rear bench in decent condition. Back up front, a simple steering wheel fronts the simple dashboard with two gauges including the speedometer, faded plastic levers, and a Kenwood AM/FM/CD radio embedded in the textured black plastic. The shifter rises from the floor which is covered with a rubber mat and in back, the barren, corrugated floor is painted red and shows use. The cargo shelf in back is painted white and is dappled with surface rust that persists in the spare tire bump out.

 Drivetrain
A relatively clean engine compartment holds a 2.0 liter flat four cylinder rated at 70 horsepower, fuel injected and mated to a 4-speed manual transmission keeping power in back through 4.02 gears.

 Undercarriage
Surface rust prevails throughout the underside and we also note a torn axle boot and some oil under the engine. While up on the lift, we note some rust on the underside of the front doors. Meanwhile, power brakes are on board as front disc and rear drum. The dual exhaust travels a short distance through a stock style muffler and exits through tips spread wide in the back. Suspension is independent front and rear with torsion arms in front and semi trailing arms and torsion bars in back.

 Drive-Ability
The experience is unique to VW buses as you're right up against the front, viewing the road through a large windshield with a commanding view of the road. The van rolls through the test loop without a hiccup, and although our consignor warned of an oil pressure light, we didn't experience it, and the VW did everything well. We note the brake lights and right wiper are not working, but all other functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Like the ubiquitous presence of Santa Claus at this time of the year, this red and white dream shows up to grace our Hallowed Halls and presents itself to the market. The VW bus market remains strong and people are drawn to them like moths to a flame at car shows, for good reason. They're unique, useful, versatile, and forever cool.

Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (that's more than 8 acres!).

1969 Volkswagen Type 2 Bus

For consignment, a 1969 Volkswagen Type 2 bus showing 94,709 miles, but the true miles are unknown. The '69 brochure touts, "This box seats 7. Without crowding. We mean people. We're not even counting dogs and cats". This example has been owned by our consignor for 15 years during which it was partially restored and seats 5.

 Exterior
The very pleasing shade of light brown here is called Savannah Beige and is fantastically accented with red wheels, red inside the rear ducts, red inside the cowl vents, and dark tinted windows. It's a clean look that includes sharing that color with the bumpers while an Empi roof rack adds the right period touch and provides extra capacity. There's a front hook for the included tow bar and according to our consignor, an RV plug for the lights in case you want to tow this bus to your destination. Paint and metal trim are in nice shape but upon close examination, we find some imperfections including numerous drip marks and paint run, some wavy panels, uneven areas of filler, and rust bubbling on lower edges and rocker panels.

 Interior
Light brown tweed panels fill the inner door space and the material is also used on the floor, headliner, and footwells for a blended presentation. The front buckets seats are beige vinyl tuck and roll inserts inside of brown outer panels and a similar configuration is used on the sidewalls in back where a brown vinyl bench resides. VW didn't complicate things and the simple steering wheel leads to a black plastic dash with minimal gauges, some colorful vent levers, and a more modern Kenworth AM/FM/CD unit in the center above the floor mounted shifter. In the rear section, there is some loose fitting vinyl on the walls and a plastic shelled spare tire.

 Drivetrain
Under the rear hatch is a 1600cc flat four cylinder, rated at 57 horsepower, and according to our consignor, possesses a newer long block. It is fueled by a 1-barrel carburetor and mated to a 4-speed manual transaxle that keeps power in back through 4.857 gears. The engine is clean and accessible.

 Undercarriage
Driver quality conditions prevail underneath with the typical surface rust, some residual oil on the underside of the engine, a wet spot on the front axle, and clear belly pans. The dual exhaust travels a short distance through a stock style muffler that expels two chrome tailpipes. Drum brakes are on all four wheels and independent suspension front and rear includes torsion bar and a transverse torsion bar respectively.

 Drive-Ability
After testing cars with long noses all day, it's a relief and somewhat fun to be right up at the front window with no hood to look over. We roll this bus onto the test loop where it might not win any drag races, but it gets you where you want to go, and the smiles are no extra charge! It runs well, tracks straight, and stops when prompted. All functional items operate as intended and we take this groovy ride back to the mall to find a place to rest under the lights. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

The retro effect should soon be in place with VW buses. Just as the new Bronco injected some energy into the already fervent classic Bronco market, the Volkswagen ID Buzz might make vintage buses hotter than ever. So here's a fine example with some custom touches. Perhaps Cat Stevens said it best, "Now I've been smiling lately, thinkin' about the good things to come, and I believe it could be, something good has begun". Surely, he was talking about 2025 and this classic VW bus. Get on the peace train, man!

1976 Volkswagen Transporter

1976 Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi Bus

For consignment, a 1976 Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi bus showing 90,383 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This storied van served a mural artist for 30 years, travelling to 32 states, (behind an RV), to work his craft, and having seen three engines and two transmissions. There's so much you can do with this Kombi bus, but if you happen to be a mobile artist, your ship has just come in!

 Exterior
In the words of our consignor, "the artwork evolved over the years from signs to mural work to pinstriping" and it has retained all of it to this day. While the top half of the van presents in white, the lower section contains a continuous mural including mountains, waterways, and trees. Above that, lettering abounds, a Pegasus spreads its wings on each side while pirates, birds and other wildlife along with pinstripe flourishes color additional panels, all on a yellowish cream base. A front tow bar leads the way stowed over a spare tire while the pop up is bordered in yellow and intact when extended. Imperfections include metal work that shows age, numerous cracks in the paint, flaking paint over surface rust on the drip rails, and numerous spots of bubbling.

 Interior
Saddle vinyl door panels contrast with the typical VW black hardware, including the vent that doubles as an armrest and other than some looseness at the bottom, the panels are in decent shape. Camel and tan vinyl bucket seats are supplied up front in decent shape with a tear in the base of the passenger seat. The black dash and two spoke steering wheel all show some age but it's all there, plus an AM/FM/Cassette radio in the middle under a dash mounted fan looking remarkably period correct. And speaking of period, there's a Cobra CB radio on board and the microphone is connected to the floor mounted shifter. A ribbed rubber mat covers the floor. In back, a canvas for creativity with an artist's drafting table like surface accompanied by a chair that was in every school in 1976. A cord is strung on one side equipped with clothespins with which to hang your fresh finger paint or pastel. The headliner and pop up are in good shape with some staining and the way back wears some well worn carpet. Windows are covered with film that doubles as signage.

 Drivetrain
In back we have a 1600cc flat four cylinder engine producing 47 horsepower with a 1-barrel carburetor and 4-speed manual transmission. Gearing in back is 4.875 and power brakes are provided as front power disc and rear power drum.

 Undercarriage
Plenty of surface rust exists on this driver quality underside, along with a coating of oil on the transmission. The dual exhaust and stock style muffler are tinged by surface rust but intact while we note some flaking rust on a frame rails and where the battery box once was. There are a few spots where grease has accumulated, but the knuckles are in decent condition. Suspension includes a front torsion arms and a transverse torsion bar in back.

 Drive-Ability
We grab our #4 precision brush, some gouache, and a beret and head out into the vast unknown, or as we like to call it, our test loop. Despite sub 100 horsepower numbers, these vans can feel not quick per se, but spry and with the forward cab quite fun to navigate. On our artistic adventure, we note the horn, turn signals, brake lights, tail lights, and heater blower not working. Sacre' bleu also, the brakes feel a bit soft too. Beyond these things, the remaining functions worked as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

If Bob Ross drove a VW van, it might look exactly like this. But exterior aside, this is still a 1976 Kombi, providing somewhat of a blank canvas for the next owner to return it to stock configuration, create a mini camper, or whatever artistic avenues you decide to follow! Van life is waiting and it just showed up in a kaleidoscope covered VW!

1979 Volkswagen Transporter

1979 Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi Bus

For consignment, the quintessential must have nugget from the hippie past in the form of a wildly painted Kombi bus. It was painted in Las Vegas and per the consignor, the painter was a veteran of the Burning Man festival. But you knew that. And it was serviced in 2018 at Kombi Haus in Sacramento, California. So, what we have is a real west coast VW bus, man. Far out!

 Exterior
No, you're not trippin', this thing really is a purple painted party on wheels. What we have is a psychedelic symphony of colors and shapes and wild things. The artist took a blank canvas and created a work of art with a purple base littered with mushrooms, (or shrooms if you prefer), lotus flowers, palm trees, yin-yang, peace symbols, stars, clouds, and squiggly things. A hidden Easter egg is a caterpillar taking a puffing a large cloudy exhale after a righteous toke of his bong. That said, the body is relatively straight. The upper white section, including the roof, has its share of surface rust and there's more down by the rocker panels. There's some at the base of the windshield and heavier in the drip rail. Don't sweat it, man. The 14-inch wheels have some surface rust, but the VW hubcaps are all there. Our favorite part might be the castle Wolfsburg decal on the back window. Pretty sweet.

 Interior
Upon entry, we notice a little more rust on the sill plate. The door panels got passed over during the creative outburst, so they're pretty standard black vinyl with an air duct that runs from the hinge to a vent on the door. There's also a speaker at the base. They both show a bit of wear and looseness but are mostly intact. The same can be said for the bucket seats, also in black vinyl with some seam separation. The very simple two spoke steering wheel is in good condition and the basic dash has a speedometer in a plastic surround next to a circle of indicator lights. An aftermarket AM/FM/CD Pioneer radio is in place because Pete Seeger has to be heard! The floor mounted shifter for the automatic is tall, very bus like, and the floor is covered with a fitted rubber mat, a pure Volkswagen utilitarian trait. The headliner and sun visors show some wear towards the front, and some wear and staining is found on the back section of headliner and trim, as if rain may have seeped in through the top hinge. The back passenger area is pure Bohemian with purple carpet, (naturally), a handmade plywood platform covered in blue shag carpet. Some loosely wired house speakers are strewn about because Joan Biaz has to be heard! There are grab handles on the ceiling, a reminder that there were once three rows of seats. But fret not as our consignor is including the original bench seats with your purchase.

 Drivetrain
A 2.0 liter flat 4-cylinder engine is on board in the back and it has electronic fuel injection. The transmission is the original 3-speed automatic which keeps the power in back and turns the tires via a 4.02 ratioed gear set. Power disc brakes up front are coupled with power drum brakes in back.

 Undercarriage
Some residual oil on the pan and differential but does not appear to be actively leaking. The remainder of the undercarriage is driver quality with surface rust, some road grime and grease, but in general not horrible. Fully independent suspension is noted with a torsion arm suspension up front and transverse torsion bar arrangement in the rear. We note the power brake booster mounted underneath as well as the duct system from the engine forward. We check the door bottoms while on the lift and it's pretty gnarly, man. The weatherstripping is dryer than Dick Cavett and the surface rust is as red as Danny Bonaduce's hair. You dig?

 Drive-Ability
We fired up the 67 horsepower and we were California Dreamin' as we rolled onto our loop. Feelin' groovy, we hit the throttle and it's no speed demon but then, we've got plenty of time. Turn, turn, turn, and it did alright. Then it was back to the edge of reality and time to park the bus and check out notes. It turns out, the radio doesn't work....bummer man! The horn is also inoperable as is the heater blower and the high beams.

"Get your bags together, go bring your good friends too, glide on the peace train". Seriously though, a classic VW bus with lots of potential. Running examples are getting harder to find and this one might be worth a look. If you're looking for fun, this bus has more kicks than Billy Jack. See it at the mall!
