George Klass has compiled an online gallery of over 3,000 photos of classic drag cars from what he calls "the glory years of drag racing". He has opened his website to the public and wants to share his passion with others.
"They say tahat if you can remember the 1960s, you weren't there. This may be in reference to the days of tight drugs and loose women and the 'Summer of Love'. Of course, I wouldn't know about that," says Klass in the Preface of his website. "But I know if you were into drag racing in the 1960s and you are still around today, not only is it an easy (and wonderful) period to remember, it's also a time you can't forget."
Klass was born in 1939 and raised in Hollywood, California. When he was 16 years old, he drove his 1940 Ford Coupe down the Santa Ana Drag Strip. By the mid-1960s, he had gone through plenty of street/strip cars, including a one-third ownership in a Top Fuel dragster.
Klass' website is full of over 3,000 photos of classic drag cars, including Super Stocks, Gassers, Street Roadsters, Dragsters, and Altereds. Some of the photos were his to begin with, and some were just found on the Internet. He does not take credit for those that did not belong to him, but quotes Mark Twain by saying, "It is better to take what does not belong to you than let it lie around neglected."
The website is based on the memories that Klass has about drag racing during the 1950s and 60s, but consists mostly of photographs.
We were made aware of this website by our buddy Ron Main, of Save the Salt, and wanted to share it with our readers.
