Goodguys Nationals Draws Industry’s Top Cars and Companies to Columbus
Ohio Expo Center, Columbus, OH - The Goodguys 16th PPG Nationals – the largest event of the year for Goodguys, starts its three-day run at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio this Friday, July 12th. Cars from 34 states and Canadian provinces have pre-entered for the 3-day vintage automotive festival. Over 6,000 1972 & earlier rods, customs, classic, muscle car & street machines are expected. Event features also include Friday Nite Vintage Drags at National Trail Raceway, vendor exhibits, Goodguys AutoCross, the Ahwooga.com swap meet, AutoTrader Classics.com Car Corral, model car show, how-to seminars and more.
The Goodguys’ signature event features some of the industry’s top vehicle awards. The crowning of the Goodguys 2013 Optima Batteries Street Machine of the Year and the Goodguys 2013 Classic Instruments Street Rod of the Year highlight the weekend. The two Dave’s (Former Goodguys Trendsetter’s Dave Lane and Dave Kindig) will be on hand in Columbus to personally select a total of 20 Goodguys Builder’s Choice awards. Goodguys officials will also be searching for finalists for the Hemming’s Muscle Car of the Year, the Intro Wheels Muscle Machine of the Year and the LMC Truck of the Year (late). To sweeten the pot even further, STREET RODDER Magazine will be on hand to select ten of their “Top 100” cars, Classics Trucks will select their “Finest Five” and the Barry Lobeck Memorial award will also be selected. Over 100 awards will be presented in total.
The Goodguys AutoCross track will be hot all three days featuring Friday’s Street Machine of the Year qualifier runs and Saturday’s Sponsor Shootout. The Sponsor Shootout is a special eliminator event featuring some of the nation’s top drivers representing all 12 national Goodguys AutoCross sponsors. Drivers entered include Mark Turner (AFCO), Stacy Tucker (AutoMeter), Phil Gerber (Roadster Shop), Ryan Mathews (Detroit Speed), Brad Coomer (Rocket Racing Wheels), Rob McGregor (Hurst Shifters), Bret Voelkel (Ridetech), Cheryl Herrick (Jet Hot), Roger Burman (Summit Racing), Jimi Day (Optima Batteries), Brian Finch (BF Goodrich) and Kyle Tucker (JRI Shocks).
Over 400 companies will exhibit at this year’s Goodguys Nationals. The expansive 160,000 square foot Bricker Building will be filled to the rafters with indoor booths. Outdoors the industry’s fanciest big rigs will line the midways creating a show in itself. All of the other traditional Goodguys event features (swap meet, car corral, live stage shows, arts & crafts, model car show & more) are also included in the price of admission making for a memorable weekend.
