The Goodguys 18th Meguiar's Del Mar Nationals ran so smoothly as to be nearly perfect. In contrast to the last Goodguys event, the weather was beautiful all weekend long, drawing countless car lovers to the Del Mar Fairgrounds as well as, on Friday, a cruise from Pleasanton down around the San Diego area.
Perhaps the most highly anticipated award, for the 2018 Street Rod d'Elegance competition, was granted to a 1940 Ford Convertible belonging to Debbie Walls of Knoxville, Tenn. Other prestigious and fun victories included Scott Fraser's triumph in the Pro Class AutoCross, David Carroll's win in the AutoCross Duel, the Homebuilt Heaven trophy awarded to a 1940 AutoCar belonging to Tom and Gayle Nugent of Riverside, Calif., and the Long Distance Award bestowed upon Gary and Flo Garman, who traveled from Mt. Wolf, Penn. with their 1955 Chrysler Post.
The spectacular showing at this event stokes the fires of enthusiasm for Goodguys' next auto extravaganza, the 4th North Carolina Nationals coming up April 27-29. Keep an eye out for HotRodHotline's follow-up!
