Welcome to No Limits, TX (otherwise known as Ft. Worth) home of the Texas Motor Speedway as well as the location of the 8th Goodguys Spring Lone Star Nationals, the kick-off event of the 2018 Goodguys show season.
Of course the big news this year is the new eligibility requirement for participation -- the limit was raised to 1987 from 1972 as part of an effort to engage a broader range of enthusiasts as the interest in the Fox body Mustang, 3rd Gen Camaro, square-bodied trucks, etc grows.
“We carefully considered all aspects of a year bump,” said Goodguys President and CEO Marc Meadors.” We discussed it with prominent builders, manufacturers, and our members. We asked our social media audience for their input and we ran a column in the Gazette which garnered over a thousand letters. The resulting flood of feedback and collective input from all of our research suggested nearly 70% of our audience was in favor of the bump."
In addition to the new eligibility requirements, the 2018 season will see new autocross opportunities including a Saturday shootout, the All-American Sunday that welcomes American-made vehicles from ALL years, amazing swap meets and vendor areas, and awards that recognize local talent.
Each show will also feature a local car club display-- the Mad Dog Car Club was a highlight of the Lone Star show.
The Lone Star Nationals also took full advantage of the racetrack setting including a Saturday night track cruise along those banked slopes and a chance for NASCAR fans to get a thrilling ride along. It's one of the standout features of the Goodguys shows that each show offers a unique experience for attendees and exhibitors.
We spoke with one of these partcipants, Alan Stein, who truly embodies the ingenuity and drive of the hot rod enthusiast. Alan has owned his 1940 Ford for the past 25 years, and it's hardly a trailer queen. Alan drove the car from Pleasant Point, OH to display at the show and will drive it to the upcoming Spring Nationals at Scottsdale on March 16-18. You can check out our interview, and his '40 Ford, in the video below.
