The Great Race is a cross-country rally that pits driver and navigator teams against the clock and each other competing in vehicles built before 1969. The race began in the early ‘80s as a Los Angeles to Indianapolis adventure, arriving in Indy for 500 week. 30 years later, it has taken participants all over the country, from Disneyland to Disneyworld, from Norfolk, VA to Seattle, WA, from Ottowa, Canada to Mexico City.
This year, to celebrate 30 years of the race, and 40 years of the Minnesota Street Rod Association’s “Back to the Fifties Weekend”, the race will have its Grand Start on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 10:30 am at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.
From Minnesota, racers will travel along the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico following the Mississippi River to the finish line in Mobile, AL. Attend the “50's” on Friday afternoon, June 21, to meet the drivers and crews and see the cars in the infield of the State Fair Grandstand.
Follow all the teams on the Great Race website: www.greatrace.com or on the MSRA "Back to the 50's Weekend" website.
