The history of my car, by Justin K. Ray
I have owned this 1960 Comet since 2002. I bought it from the original owner who bought it new in '60. I paid $2,000 for it ($5.00 more than he originally bought it for new being it was $1,995.00 off the show room floor), and when I got it you could say it was in rough shape. Since 2002 I have invested roughly $10,000-12,000 into it. The car is fully restored now. I actually just finished the restoration completely a few months ago being that I am getting married in September and we are going to use it to pull away from the wedding. This car is very near and dear to me because it was a project that my dad and I worked on for years. It has a 144cu inline six motor and 2 speed automatic trans. 2 door hard top sedan and one of the nicest comets from the first generation you will see, I have made it my own (not that I'm bias or anything).
I have replaced every aspect of this car from random rubber seals all the way down to floor pans, etc. everything you can possibly think has been replaced. This is an all matching numbers car and has been restored back to almost factory minus a few modern day upgrades and things I’ve changed about the car to make it mine, e.g. FM radio, classic wheels and tires which are designed to look retro, and I have switched the color from white body and teal interior to Ford #7 303c Matador Red Metallic (Maroon) with a black on black on chrome and stainless metal interior colors.
This is a first generation Comet which was only produced for only 2 years, 1960 and 1961. In 1962 this car became a "Mercury" Comet, although it was originally sold by Lincoln Mercury dealers, it was sold under the name "Comet" as the first compact car. It was based off the Falcon and was originally designed for Edsel before they closed that division.
I always love the little old ladies coming up to me and telling me they got married in one of those- now I can say I did too!!
I also love the people who just don’t have a clue what it is or who it is made by, because besides the motor saying "Ford" on the valve cover, it doesn’t have Ford or Mercury logos on the car.
