Cutting, Bending and Flaring Tubing Page 4 |
Double flares are used primarily in tubing sizes 3/8” O.D. and smaller. They hold up better in situations where vibration is present and can usually be tightened to stop a leak without washing out the flare. They also hold up to disassembly and reassembly of the joint better than a single flare. |

Flaring AN Fittings: AN (Army Navy) fittings require a 37 flare instead of a 45 flare. A similar bar and cone type flaring tool is used to create these. Much of the same techniques apply when flaring mild steel brake lines, however when stainless steel tubing is used for applications like brake lines special flaring tools are needed. |
This is a high-end flaring tool that has an integrated cone with an automatic burnishing feature on the cone. This is a 37 flaring tool that accommodates a variety of tubing sizes. |
