Los Angeles, CA. - Rounds seven and eight of the 17 event 2013 NMRA-TQ Midget Series took place June 15 at Ventura Raceway and a week later at NMRA's home track, Bakersfield Speedway. Eleven TQs competed at the fifth-mile Ventura seaside track in the annual NMRA Ron Otto Memorial event. Six cars raced at the third-mile Bakersfield oval.

Point leader West Evans won the 25-lap feature at Ventura. His first cousin/TQ teammate Chuck West captured the 20-lap main at Bakersfield. It was the second feature triumph of 2013 for both drivers. Six drivers have won the eight main events run so far this season. Evans, from Moorpark, started seventh and led the final 20 laps at Ventura. C. West, from Clovis, started fifth and was out front for the final 13 laps at Bakersfield.

At Ventura Anthony Lopiccolo (from sixth), Don Kiefer (from fourth), rookie Britt Grissom (from third) and rookie Chris Thomas (from tenth) completed the top five finishers and all logged 25 laps. Kenny Wiley and Lopiccolo captured the pair of eight-lap heat races. The Bakersfield feature had five finishers and all ran 20 laps. Grissom, Evans, Wiley and Kiefer finished second through fifth respectively. Scott Dobson had pole position but he did not start. Grissom started second and won the only eight lap heat race.

POINT STANDINGS: As of July 1 Evans now leads NMRA driver points by 57 (470-413) over his teammate West. The latter driver has competed in only seven of the eight races. Evans has averaged 58.75 points per event and West has averaged 59.00 points per event. Fifteen drivers have scored NMRA points this season. In car owner point rankings, Evans' No. 36 Spike/Suzuki has 494 points and his No. 38 Stealth/Suzuki is second with 434 points. Kiefer, Wiley and Grissom rank third through fifth in car owner points. Fifteen car owners have earned 2013 points.

The next NMRA race will be held Saturday, July 20 at Bakersfield Speedway.
