One of our Roving Reporters, Jeff Berry, sent in the information for his friend's ride. Wayne Porter owns a 1936 Ford Sedan which he has owned since March 26, 1956. Wayne is from Alexandria, VA and has lived there all his life.
He raced this 1936 Ford in the Washington DC metropolitan area in the 50s and early 60s at York Dragway in York, PA, Longview Dragway, Richmond Dragway, Manassas Dragway and Sumerduck Dragway all in Virginia. He also raced at Capital Raceway and 75/80 Dragway in Maryland. He was a class winner many times with this car.
In 1969 he had Roger Blood, in Virginia, install a new engine in it and then proceeded to park it in a climate controlled garage for the next 40 years. There it sat until he decided to start it up 3 weeks ago. It started up right away after all those years of just sitting.
Wayne is now on a 21/2 year journey to restore it.
